Your mobility scooter’s tyres can have a bigger impact on your ride than you might realise.
If your scooter has pneumatic (air-filled) tyres, keeping them at the correct pressure can help with:
✔️ Ride comfort
✔️ Steering and handling
✔️ Tyre life
✔️ Battery range and efficiency
There are two common types of scooter tyres:
🔵 Pneumatic (air-filled) — generally provide a smoother ride, but need regular pressure checks and can puncture.
⚫ Solid / puncture-proof — no air pressure to maintain and less risk of punctures, but they can provide a firmer ride.
Our tip: If you have pneumatic tyres, check the pressure regularly - at least monthly is a good habit.
⚠️ Don’t guess the pressure. The correct PSI depends on your scooter and tyres, so always check the manufacturer’s manual or the tyre markings for the recommended pressure.
And don’t rely on how the tyre looks or feels. A tyre can be under-inflated without it being obvious.
Not sure what type of tyres you have or what pressure they should be?

If you or a loved one needs extra support to stay independent at home, government funding may be available through the Support at Home program.
Support at Home provides funding based on your assessed care needs, with higher funding available for people who require more support.
⏳ Depending on your priority, funding may not be available immediately, and some people can still wait several months before services begin. If you're offered interim support while waiting, it's often worth accepting so you can start receiving help sooner.
Did you know? Government-funded home care can help pay for approved mobility equipment and assistive technology when it's identified as part of your care needs.
At Maple Mobility, we work with aged care providers, support coordinators and occupational therapists across Perth to help people find the right mobility equipment to maintain their independence.

Not all mobility scooter batteries are the same - and the right battery depends on your scooter and how you use it.
Many mobility scooters are fitted with sealed lead-acid (SLA) batteries, while newer models may use lithium technology. However, battery upgrades aren't always as simple as swapping one type for another.
Things to consider:
✔️ Different scooters are designed for different battery sizes and capacities.
✔️ Battery choice affects weight, range, charging times, and performance.
✔️ Replacing batteries with the correct specification is important for safety, reliability, and warranty compliance.
Lithium batteries can offer benefits such as lighter weight, faster charging, and longer service life. However, they're not the right solution for every scooter or every user.
If your scooter isn't travelling as far as it used to, taking longer to charge, or you're unsure which battery you need, we can help.
At Maple Mobility, we supply and fit replacement batteries for a wide range of mobility scooters and powerchairs, ensuring you get the right battery for your equipment and lifestyle.

Got an NDIS plan? That doesn't automatically mean a mobility scooter will be funded.
For many mobility scooters and other assistive technology, the NDIS will need supporting information to show the equipment is right for your needs. This often involves input from an Occupational Therapist or other health professional, along with a supplier quote.
They may look at:
✔️ Your daily mobility needs
✔️ Your goals and independence
✔️ Your home and community environment
✔️ Which equipment is the best fit for you
The approval process can take time, so it's often worth starting early.
At Maple Mobility, we're here to help make the process easier. We can bring scooters to your home for a trial, provide quotes, and work with your OT and support team to find the right solution.

Maple Tip: Thinking about buying a mobility scooter in WA? The rules might surprise you.
Mobility scooter regulations vary across Australia — and WA has its own specific guidelines worth knowing before you buy.
In WA, mobility scooters are generally treated as pedestrian devices if they:
✔️ Travel no faster than 10km/h
✔️ Are designed for people with limited mobility
That means they can usually be used on footpaths and shared pathways — no registration or licence required. But rules around lighting, visibility flags, bike lanes, and higher-speed models can still vary.
That’s why we always recommend speaking with a local Perth provider who knows the WA rules. At Maple Mobility, we help Perth locals find the right scooter for their lifestyle and local environment. And we bring the trial straight to your door.
