NW winds tailor action 🎣
Nw winds wasn’t sure I should head out, cloud and some dirty water along with fresh bait did the trick👌🎣.
Wednesday weed day
Still some weed banked around the local beaches.
Hope it clears for the weekend🙌🎣.
Daniel Funston catching a magnificent swan river mulloway on super light line going for bream. That’s a catch he won’t forget in a hurry. Well done 👏 🎣. The weather and the moon may have played a factor but what a catch👌🎣. Tight lines🎣.
Thank you to my dad , Bruce for introducing fishing to me as a young child. I am so privileged and grateful to have two kids that I can share my obsession with in the water🎣. I wish everyone a great Father’s Day filled with lots of laughs and good memories. Make the most out of it we don’t know when our last cast will be🎣. Happy Father’s Day.
A very interesting session today to say the least. Set out of Perth before sunrise to catch some fresh bait, herring as we were planning on droning out some fresh baits. The herring were in huge numbers before sunrise and could have easily collected our limit but took some for bait and a few for the kids dinner tonight. When we approached the beach the weed was an issue making it hard to cast or drone out any baits so plan b and off we went searching for fishable grounds. We agreed to try a spot we had some good success on bigger tailor a few weeks ago and I walked down to a likely looking hole and Garrit van der Laan decided to watch the drone send out fresh baits. My second cast I got rewarded with a healthy tailor no monster but a good fish and decided I would take it home and give to the neighbour to smoke it👌🎣. Was very quiet after that on cast and drone so again moved on, this time of year it certainly pays to be mobile and flexible, a gutter that was completely weeded out yesterday was clean of weed but a little sanded out. Tide was still coming in mulloway had been reported in the area game on. We had caught a few fresh whiting earlier also so decided to cast them out on a running sinker rig with sets of 3x5/0 tarpon gangs as the fish were smaller in size. First cast Garrits whiting got some attention, pulled in the line and was clear to see it had been mouthed by a smaller mulloway. Made the call to use fresh Mullies as they were softer and easier to disolve in the fishes mouth and try and get a good hook set. And just like clock work the rod bounced I told him to wait a second then yep your on mate let’s go. Now the fish was certainly no monster but still a beautiful mulloway, a fish Garrit has not been able to target for many years due to health issues and the smile on his face made our day. I got a little too excited on the next cast and pulled hooks on another fish similar in size 🤦♂️, but was some good banter afterwards all
Some good signs locally the soapies are around and in good numbers. Brock Gatti having some fun an hour before first light this morning.
With the large amount of reports that came through yesterday I wanted to head out and have a look at a few local beaches🎣. Some good white water and swell before first light , and then the swell dropped and the beach didn’t look as good but still persisted as there was some good fish around yesterday. A very skinny school of tailor, not what I was expecting but still good to get down to the local beach and clear the mind and start the day off with some salt water therapy🎣. A big thank you to Jane Unwin my wife has been so supportive allowing me to get on the water a lot more recently and it has helped me be a better version of myself so I really appreciate it🙌🎣. The power of being on the water is something not be underestimated it has huge positive effects to all. A big thank you to Lubesport sinkers and fishing equipment for continued support and supplying the page and members with quality sinkers and fishing supplies👌🎣. Some forget to jump on the Beyond Blue donation link pinned to the top of the page, and join in the online raffle and check out the amazing prizes that you can have a chance to win. Thank you to everyone who has jumped on the new page we are rebuilding and growing some great community vibes👌🎣. Peace ✌️ 🎣.
Double hooks ups I will never get sick of casting lures for the bigger winter greenbacks lurking in the reef systems. We will take the go pro down with us next week and hopefully get some footage, over 40 big fish all over 50cm and fighting against each other to get to the lure first. There were a few extra large tailor that would hold back off the pack, they don’t get to 80cm plus without seeing a few things on their journey. As we started to continually release the fish the school did start to show signs of catching on to us and followed the lures more cautiously from previously leaping out of the water like mini pelagic sports fish. The evening bite was slow, we gathered some decent sand whiting but no larger fish last night. That’s fishing the tailor bite was a great session we all won’t forget in a hurry🎣.
Some eager crews making the most of the weekends conditions, cold but very nice on the water. Some good reports of snapper, gummy sharks came in from last nights droning crew. Locally this morning very quiet, some herring a few sand whiting not many tailor reported off the open beaches yet. Will tonight produce some of those big winter tailor or will tomorrow see the fish rock up, the metro land based challenge most weeks following the fish around🎣. All I know is this weekend is cold but if you can head out I would make the most of the weekends conditions. A few squid have been reported around Hilary’s with behind Aqua being a good area to try. We are just gearing up to head up the coast ourselves, rug up and see what’s around. The anticipation is sometimes greater than the session but time on the water is so good for the soul. I hope you all have great weekends on the water with family and friends🎣.
The scouting has begun in eager anticipation for a local session tomorrow🎣. Quinten de Graaf kindly heading along the coast to check the local conditions. As you can see here the front gutter is shallow and the main section of white water is further out, a typical scenario this time of year. With tomorrow’s high tide casting at this particular stretch will be difficult so a plan B is in order. Our local beaches are all different and some fish better at different times of the year. The more time you spend on the water the more you will observe and hopefully get some much deserved tight lines🎣. The water does however look fishy, was noted lose weed on the surface not much on the bottom. Definitely in the mood for a look now myself 🎣. Happy fishing🎣.
This is Perths forecast, if you use this site to check the wind and swell make sure you change the location to your closest location there is a big difference in wind and swell across the metro area. Tomorrow for example at my local beach it is almost half the swell forecast compared to Perths swell a big difference. Hilary’s has been reported as heavily weeded out, I will head down late this afternoon to see how the local is fairing🙌🎣. Happy fishing.
A regular local port Jackson around the reef🎣. Garrit van der Laan still enjoying the brief moment of hoping for that snapper to hit the beach🎣. While we have baits soaking we are still in the game 🙏🎣.
