Today is National Survivors Day.
As an organisation who has historically caused harm, we marks this day to recognise & commemorate the courage and journeys of Survivors of Sexual Assault and Institutional Abuse, their Supporters, and whistle-blowers across Australia.

CALM video
Our Fabulous Geelong team shared some photos from the CALMs Art Therapy group, which is partnership between Drummond Street Services, Catholic Care, North Geelong Secondary and Northern Bay Colleges, and Louise Purcell, private art therapist and a former placement student of Drummond Street.
It was a fun morning out in the YouYangs Regional Park, with refugee and immigrant women, children, and family members from the Karen and Kareni cultures of Myanmar, as well two Afghani women. It involved mindfulness, narrative techniques, the creation of art with found-objects and forest materials, and also discussion of significance of the site and its stories for the First Nations people of the area, the Wathaurong people.
Former manager Frances McAloon was integral in setting up the connections to run this group last year, and it has been great we have been able to run it again in 2022 to mark its anniversary.
Despite getting eaten alive by mosquitoes for the first half of the day, we welcomed back many of the same women, and some new faces too, for a shared lunch, and many laughs and smiles!
Happy National Carers Week! 2
Happy Carers Week!
Our staff are committed to the health and wellbeing of primary carers. We follow the guidance of the Carer Recognition Act and acknowledge the Commonwealth Carer Recognition Act.
We aim to increase recognition and awareness of those people who provide care and encourage the participation of carers on our service, program and project advisory groups.
Keep an eye out on our social media and newsletters for these opportunities.

This week is Homelessness Week
This week is Homelessness week.
On any given night 116,000 people in Australia are without a home.
Social Housing in Australia is shrinking, down from 4.8% in 2011 to 4.2% last year,
1 in 7 people seeking homelessness services are young people on their own.
We stand with homelessness Australia. To end homelessness, we need Affordable housing for all, to provide people the support they need and to end family violence.
A massive 114,000 people needing homelessness services were turned away last year because of a lack of resources/
This isnāt good enough! At Drummond Street Service we see the horrific impacts homelessness has on many in our communities, especially those with intersecting identities.
We commit to tackling homelessness in our work and our advocacy, and we ask you to join us. #homelessness #homelessnessweek #nationalhomelessnessweek #homelessnessawareness
