At 5am a fox took the head off an animal that lived on our front lawn. She was called Missy.

I have it on camera but you won't see it here.

If you live in a city you've probably never seen a dead animal that wasn't wrapped in plastic. That's not because there's less death where you are. It's because death has been moved out of sight, and someone like me is paid to conduct it for you.

A predator doesn't kill its prey. It starts eating, and the animal dies somewhere in the middle.

Compare that to the cattle and sheep on this farm who live beautiful lives, and then have one final, devastating moment (that they never even hear coming). It's faster than the speed of sound, then their body goes on to feed a human family for a year.

On this farm, yes I'm the Angel of Death. But the kindest death comes from my hand, not nature's.

The fox showed Missy no such kindness.

Can't afford a farm? Neither could I.

So I joined with other families and did it anyway. Now I run the fence line, in the hail, on land that I could never have bought alone.

Next month we are Not Running a Farm Tour.

It's called: Not a Farm Tour.

No chickens to pat, no honey to take home. Ten (or fewer) people, on their feet, at every gate, fence, trailer and dam that I got wrong, walking with me across hundreds of acres while I tell you what it cost and what you could do on your dream piece of land.

You will see a real, working farm, and the result of real decisions, good and bad. And we will design your future land owning, whether that's on your own, or in a group, with half and acre or hundreds.

If you don't own land, or have access to land, you are in trouble. Get your own. Join with others. Or make friends with a farmer.

I asked my daughters today whether I love them more now than when they were babies.

I don't.

I love them exactly as much as I did the day they arrived, which was before they'd done a single thing. Nothing they do will add to it. Nothing they do will lose it. It doesn't rest on them. It rests on the fact that they're mine.

This is my entire job. Not more love because it's Father's Day. Not more when we feel guilty. The same love at zero, at ten, at twenty.

Did you get this kind of love? You should have. Or was it conditional?

I lost 36kg (80lbs) between June and December last year. No GLP-1s. No gym. No diet.

That is not the interesting part. People lose weight all the time.

The interesting part is that I didn't do it. It happened TO me.

Thirty years of yo-yoing, and the drop that finally worked was the easiest thing I have ever done. I did not try. I still don't.

But my body didn't change first. The thing my fat was protecting did.

The reason so many of us can't lose weight is that we need the weight.

The fat is armour. Underneath is a self that got buried a long time ago, because burying it was safer than being seen.

Remove the armour and the self is exposed. Unacceptable.

So we keep the facade, we stay covered. We stay not real.

I burned mine down in May 2025 and then my body took six months to catch up. I didn't create, I didn't rebuild, I EXCAVATED and REVEALED.

This is the book I'm writing about it: https://discernable.io/notreal

The Karen Paradox. Why the most moralistic person in the room is actually running on zero morality.

It's growing on me slowly. Maybe I will buy the fake glasses for aesthetic, vanity purposes.

Weird how a semiotic of failing function can become a fashion semiotic.

Last visit to Belgrave Eye Care

Read that glasses are a good way to looksmax. But all I keep seeing is a symbol of defective eyesight. And my eyes are fine. So no glasses for me.

1,000 copies of my first book. Thank you. Here's a piece of the next one:

'
At ten I was the one who answered the door when the landlord came. I negotiated payment plans on electricity bills we couldn't pay. I made promises I had no power to keep, to adults who were rightly furious.

I was "the man of the house" apparently. That was the title. But any rudeness, any assertiveness, any pushback I dared show, got punished the moment the door closed. My mother sent me to win fights with both hands tied behind my back.

So I learned the only skill the narrow corridor allowed. How to de-escalate without authority. How to manage a person's emotions with zero leverage. How to buy time on a debt that I couldn't pay.

I never solved a single crisis, but I could delay them, sometimes indefinitely.

That skill built a farm, several businesses, and a reputation as the 'safest pair of hands' in the room.

Was I proud of this title? Yes but it also sickened me. I don't want to be 'safe'.

Sometimes the thing you built simply to survive is the same thing everyone now admires you for.

So your surface persona, that doesn't quite feel real? It's not a pathology. The machine is working exactly as designed.

You are not broken. You are buried.

David McBride walked out of prison this morning.

I sat across from him before he went in. He knew what was coming and went anyway.

27 months in a cell for illegally exposing war crimes. Convictions for the crimes he exposed: zero.

And "walked out" is generous...this whistleblower is still doing time. 3 yrs of supervision and conditions.

McBride broke the law. He is guilty.

Also, the law was wrong.

'Legal' is just the morality of whoever holds the pen. When you outsource your conscience to legislation, you've made parliament your priest. That's reckless.

Illegal-but-ethical is how conscience operates.
