A new chapter for this classic Beaumaris modernist beauty is about to commence.

Retaining all that’s wonderful about this home, like its distinctive angled roof and views through the ‘window wall’ to the garden.

Architect, Robert Harwood has retained all of these features while adding an entirely new living/kitchen/dining area, working with the client to ensure the mid-century look and feel continues in the new wing.

At the rear, the new extension now connects seamlessly with the garden, eliminating the previous disconnection and allowing effortless indoor/outdoor living.

DESIGN IS IN THE DETAILS.
From the refurbishment of a grand Art Deco mansion in Hampton, to new homes in Sandringham and Beaumaris, “design is in the details” isn’t just a philosophy — it’s what transforms a house into a home with soul.
Every project tells a different story. Different budgets. Different locations, lifestyles and expectations. Yet the common thread is always the same: thoughtful design, carefully considered materials, and an uncompromising attention to detail.
Because true quality isn’t always found in the grand gestures — it’s in the way natural light moves through a space, the precision of a junction, the warmth of a texture, and the craftsmanship behind every finish.
The details are what create timeless homes. And timeless design is never accidental.

Let’s create something extraordinary together.

Two California B**galows.
Two different outcomes.
Both retain the charm and quality of the Cali B**g style. Both transformed for contemporary living.

Two California B**galows.
Two completely different approaches.

Californian B**galows are highly sought after—and for good reason. Their strong street presence, generous proportions, high ceilings and finely crafted timber details give them a warmth and character that’s increasingly rare. The challenge? Original layouts often feel compartmentalised, storage can be limited, and rear spaces are frequently dark and disconnected from the garden.

The opportunity is where it gets exciting. These are solid, well-built homes with enduring bones—ideally suited to a considered, contemporary extension that transforms how they look and feel, while respecting what makes them special. And this is where we come in. We’ve renovated many Californian B**galows—one of our architects even grew up in one. Here, we share two very different projects. Each responds to a unique brief and different styles of living, yet both reimagine these homes for the way families want to live today.

Transformation of a charming Californian B**galow into a contemporary family home, adding a second storey, larger living/dining spaces and kitchen and new bathrooms, while retaining the characterful look and feel of the original. Architect: Lyndal Williams

Bentleigh, Vic
For the renovation of this Cali B**g, we designed a kitchen/living/dining contemporary extension with a striking, asymmetrical roof that extends 4.7m high, creating a dramatic, lofty effect that sets it apart. This is a great example of how our architects will elevate your property beyond the everyday. Architect: Lyndal Williams | Builder: Drake Build

Of course, not every home is a Californian B**galow. But if yours is ready to be reimagined with intelligence, restraint and beautifully considered ideas—improvements you’ll appreciate not just now, but every day for decades to come—then let’s talk.

BEAUMARIS
MID-CENTURY MODERN
TAILORED FOR TODAY
Construction has commenced on reimagining this mid-century residence, balancing architectural respect with contemporary luxury.

The home will retain its distinctive character, yet be transformed to meet the expectations of refined family living.

A full renovation across the split-level floor plan will introduce strong connections to the garden and outdoor life. The house, currently perched above the landscape with little interaction to the garden, will flow naturally to the site, inviting light, views and ease of movement.

The entry sequence has been re-conceived along the side, shaping a more engaging arrival experience and allowing the former front rooms to become a private master suite with ensuite, retreat and terrace—its own quiet world within the home.

The result is stylish, assured and joyous: a home that expresses mid-century spirit without being constrained by heritage literalism. Every decision is deliberate, thoughtful and uplifting. See our feed for detailed renders.
