What happens when human experience becomes the new frontier of extraction and attention the ultimate commodity?
In his New Yorker essay, “Will the Humanities Survive Artificial Intelligence?“, D. Graham Burnett describes AI not simply as a tool, but as “a new kind of creature” entering the classroom. Rather than banning it, he chose to invite it in - asking students to spar with AI and reflect on what the encounter revealed about their own thinking. The result became one of the most profound moments of his teaching career.
Burnett argues that the defining struggle of our time is over attention itself. He calls for “attention activism”, a practices that help us reclaim agency in a world where focus is measured, monetised, and manipulated.
On Friday 6 March 2026, 8:00–9:30am AEDT, Graham joins Berry Liberman for a live conversation on what it means to stay discerning, creative, and human in the age of AI.

We are living through a technological transformation redefining what it means to be human.
Artificial intelligence is reshaping the foundations of society. Trust, belonging, democracy, work and the systems that sustain life.
Its promise is extraordinary. Its risks are profound.
The 2026 Wisdom & Action Forum: Trust in the Age of AI will gather 300 leaders from business, government, academia, technology, and the arts to explore the question at the centre of this moment:
How do we remain human, and build trust, in an age shaped by AI?
Together, we will examine the dynamics transforming our world: artificial intimacy and identity, AI’s ecological footprint, the future of work, democratic resilience in an era of misinformation and how AI-infused systems influence human agency.
This Forum is not about the mechanics of technology.
It is about what this transformation means for humanity. For our relationships, our institutions, our sense of meaning and our shared future.
It embraces complexity, resists simple binaries and invites the richness of diverse perspectives from science to philosophy, art to AI, spirituality to systems thinking.
To guide us through this exploration, we’re thrilled to convene an extraordinary lineup of inspiring minds. Our first speaker announcement includes: Krista Tippett, Cameron Adams, A.C Grayling, Julie Inman Grant, Toby Walsh, Svetha Venkatesh, Indy Johar, Lucy Thomas and Matt Kuperholz.

There is a deep and ancient truth we are rediscovering: we are not separate from nature; we are nature.
This is a paradigm we need to change in order to respond to the context we are in.
The Wisdom & Action Forum 2025 invites you to explore the theme We Are Nature. Building on our inaugural forum, this year’s discussions will delve into nature repair, conservation, and biodiversity—and how these acts of care ripple across every aspect of life: our communities, systems, and future.
This is a conversation about our humanity and the interconnectedness of all life.
Tickets are by application through the link in bio.

What would happen if every country in the world took their military budget and invested it into education and nature protection?
In 1948, Costa Rica did just that — outlawing the army and redirecting resources towards cultivating a more educated and ecologically thriving nation. Today, Costa Rica is internationally recognised as one of the greenest and happiest countries on Earth, a living example of what visionary leadership and love for people and the planet can achieve.
In our latest episode of the Wisdom & Action Podcast, Christiana Figueres, Costa Rican diplomat and climate leader — and daughter of the man responsible for abolishing the Costa Rican army, José Figueres Ferrer — shares how her country’s bold choices have shaped its present and why this legacy of care for both people and planet is more urgent than ever.
What bold choices are we being called to make to build a future we want to gift to future generations? Listen now via link in bio.
