It is very common for lawns to show signs of struggling and heat stress after the extreme heat experienced throughout WA 🥵 When we experience 35-40°C + temperatures with strong winds, the evapotranspiration (eto) rate is much higher than usual.
Evapotranspiration is the term used to describe the removal of liquid water 💧 from an area with vegetation and into the atmosphere by the process of both transpiration and evaporation. When eto reaches 11.9mm as it did last week, we need to run our reticulation 20-30% longer than usual for our lawns to receive the same amount of water. If you did not allow for this, in some cases your lawn wouldn't be absorbing any water at all.
To help it recover, ensure you are watering ideally 40mm of water per week and apply a good quality liquid soil wetter and give it time to recover 🌱

13/01/2024

☀️ Extreme Heat Incoming ☀️ we are experiencing a couple of really hot days with the evapotranspiration rate reaching 11.5mm today. This means you will need to water between 20-30% more per application to allow for the water that will be evaporated before your lawn can absorb it 💧
If you only maintain your 2 watering days your lawn will dry out in this weather. You are allowed to handwater an additional day.
If you haven’t already calibrate your sprinklers to ensure you know how long to water to distributed a standard 10mm drink of water it is a worthwhile exercise.

Peel Scape Solution were invited by the Shire of Waroona to design an Irrigation system to water the new Railside Park in the centre of town. This in turn resulted in us working along side Phase 3 Landscaping to install the system which included over 5000m of pipe and 500 pop-up sprinklers in the ground. Thanks to all involved 👏.
Well worth a visit!

Another of our irrigation projects in progress

🛹 Here's the moment we know many kids (and kids at heart) in the community have been waiting for! The skatepark is taking shape at the Waroona Community Precinct and it's looking amazing. Blending street and transition elements for all levels, the skate park will have something for beginners to pros.

Whether you're learning drop-ins or mastering transitions, this is going to be the new place to be. It will feature:

• A classic mini ramp for solo sessions

• A beginner-friendly transition area for smooth drop-ins

• A flow section with humps, pockets, and extensions for cruising through the park

• A seamless tabletop with hips, an opposing bank, a quarter pipe, roll in, ledge and rail for street-styled moves

Get ready to ride in December 2023! (But not before for everyone’s safety please.)

FEBRUARY LAWN TIPS
• Apply a light feed of slow-release granular fertiliser. Just prior to your watering day. Ensure that this is well watered in.
• Watch out for dry patch. If dry patch occurs spot spray wetting Aqua Force and Bi-Agra™ to re wet the area.
• Check your irrigation systems are running smoothly and with good uniformity. Conduct a catch cup test if you are seeing signs of dry patch or evidence of lack of uniformity in sprinkler distribution. Hand water if necessary.
• A supplementary application of a liquid or water-soluble seaweed or a kelp, and carbon-based liquid fertiliser may be beneficial at this time especially if temperatures have been consistently high for an extended period.
• Get on top of summer weeds. Remove summer grass early if you have newly installed turf or bare patches.
• Routine mowing continues, mow weekly at recommended height for your turf variety. See here for details https://tgawa.com.au/turf-varieties/
