Wild budgerigars live a boom-bust life. In dry years the flocks stay small. But after good rainfall, when the grass seeds are up and the waterholes are full, they breed fast and the numbers explode. A flock like this one near Windorah is a sign of healthy rivers and a vibrant, living Channel Country.

Our first Lake Eyre Flights from Brisbane with Graham Reid last weekend, saw us receive this wonderful compliment.....

G’day Deb & Graham,

Thank you both for what was truly “an amazing experience”.

Graham, your enthusiasm was infectious. Your knowledge for your subject Matter was boundless. Your presentation was generous. You turned a vast canvas that could have been boring into a tapestry.

I had the pleasure of flying to Antarctica on the night of 31/12/25 and at midnight we were circling Mount Erebus (the world’s southern most active volcano) in a Qantas dreamliner in broad daylight drinking champagne with a conga line of passengers in the aisles. We were treated to 4 hours of non stop commentary by people who had spent multiple Winters in Antarctica, a Qantas captain who had flown to Antarctica 50 times, a glaciologist, live radio interview with an Antarctic base commander and a tour guide who had been 50 times. We were doing left and right circles around mountains that were 6,000 metres high.

I have to say that your presentation of our continent’s flat centre was up there with them.

Please take this the right way- we thought that your enthusiasm to peer out the right and then jump over to the left and then back again to the right and grab the microphone reminded us of a kelpie on the back of a Toyota tray back trying to decide which cattle needed to be eyeballed or barked at or chased.

Yours sincerely,
John

Experience Outback Queensland, Australia - so much more than you could imagine! Join us on Lake Eyre Flights from Brisbane with Graham Reid or a Motel Accommodated 4WD Tag Along Tour that includes Windorah Pub- Western Star Motel Hotel, Birdsville Hotel, Innamincka Hotel, Cameron Corner - NSW, SA, QLD, and Tibooburra Food & Fuel

When the Channel Country dries out, the fish don't disappear. Species like the bony bream and the Lake Eyre hardyhead have evolved to survive in isolated waterholes, sometimes for years, waiting for the next flood to reconnect them to the wider river system.

When the waters rise again, they spread back out across the floodplain to breed. Life in the channel country is like nothing else.

Just had to share this magnificent footage - ARID AIR offer a great experience from Marree, South Australia. From Brisbane, join a Lake Eyre Flights from Brisbane with Graham Reid or Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport

We can't wait to share some of these magnificent sights with our group departing Brisbane 30 May. A few seats still available for our 25 July departure from Brisbane Airport & we're also offering a flight departing Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport on 18 July. It's a great year to see Lake Eyre with Graham. Book with Deb now - [email protected]

From up here you can see exactly how these channels work. Water spreads slowly across the floodplain, pooling in the low-lying gilgais, soaking into the soil, growing native pastures that last long after the water is gone.

This is Cooper Creek doing what it's always done. And it's a pretty spectacular thing to see.
