Some people think of wayfinding as just sign designs.

But there’s a lot that happens before a single sign is designed, let alone built.

At Goldi, we look at wayfinding as a critical system that connects people, place, and brand. The outcome is often signage, but it's also a system of movement, information and orientation.

From a signage point of view this helps us consider: how does the signage belong within the local area and within the building's architecture? How can it reinforce the identity of a place? And most importantly, can different people easily find where they need to go?

With 20 years of specialist experience across branding, wayfinding and interpretive storytelling, we consider all of these elements together, rather than treating signage as something added at the end.

Because before the sign, there’s a lot of thinking.

A fresh look at what we do in exhibitions.

We’ve recently updated our Exhibition Design Capability Statement, bringing together some of the projects, experience and thinking that shape this part of Goldi’s work.

From developing exhibition identities and visual storytelling through to graphics, wayfinding and the broader visitor experience, we love creating exhibitions that help people connect with stories, places and ideas.

Here’s a little look inside our updated capability statement.

From the outside in at Monarch Residences.

Following on from our recent look at the external wayfinding at Monarch Residences, Toowong, we're moving inside to share some of the internal signage designed by Goldi.

These elements are part of a broader wayfinding system developed to create a clear and consistent experience throughout Monarch, while carrying the identity of the development into its internal spaces.

Materials, finishes, typography, scale and placement have all been considered in relation to the architecture and interiors, creating signage that feels connected to its surroundings while still doing its job of guiding people intuitively through the space.

New Exhibition: Beyond Frames | Logan Art Gallery

Beyond Frames brings the National Gallery of Australia’s Sharing the National Collection to Logan Art Gallery, presenting seven significant video artworks on a two-year loan alongside the work of local artists.

Goldi developed the exhibition identity around the concept ‘Play it again’. Drawing on iconic video controls, low-fi stills and a bold, nostalgic 70s and 80s visual language, we created an identity that reflects the exhibition’s relationship with technology, cinema and digital culture.

Beyond Frames opens at Logan Art Gallery on 12 September and will be on display until 2 September 2028.

Stay tuned for more...

Six years in the making.

This week, Angela was back on site at Ferny Grove, undertaking a SARA compliance review as this landmark mixed-use development moves closer to completion.

Goldi has been involved with the project since 2020, delivered across two stages. The development includes a multi-level commuter car park, retail precinct and residential offerings, creating an important transport-oriented destination for the Ferny Grove community.

Developed by Honeycombes Property Group, designed by Bureau Proberts and constructed by Broad Construction Services, the project has been a true collaboration between multiple stakeholders over a number of years.

While wayfinding and signage are often most visible at project completion, our involvement extends well beyond design. Construction-phase consultation plays an important role in helping builders navigate the final stages of delivery, ensuring signage, compliance requirements and user experience considerations are successfully integrated before handover.

It's always rewarding to return to a project that has been years in the making and see the vision becoming a reality.

What do we actually do at Goldi?

Depending on how you know us, the answer might be signage and wayfinding. Or exhibitions. Or branding.

The reality is, we work across all three, often bringing different disciplines together to create something that feels considered, connected and right for its place.

From building identities and brands, to helping people navigate spaces, to creating exhibition experiences that tell a story, our work might take many different forms, but good design thinking sits behind all of it.

So, here’s a little snapshot of what we actually do.

A brand needs to work well beyond the marketing team.

Goldi recently worked with architecture and interior design practice ThomsonAdsett to develop their Brand Expression and Brand Guidelines, creating a clear framework for how the brand comes to life across the business.

The aim was to make the brand easy to understand, easy to apply and, importantly, consistent, no matter who is using it.

With the guidelines now ready to roll out across the business, it was great to hear the TA marketing team is excited about putting them into action.

For us, that’s an important part of the process. Creating the brand is one thing. Giving a team the tools and confidence to use it well is just as important.

You may have seen Croc! Lost Giants to Living Legends popping up lately, but did you know Goldi was behind the exhibition identity design?

Now showing at Queensland Museum, Croc! takes visitors on a journey stretching back more than 130 million years, challenging some of the fearsome stereotypes surrounding these incredible creatures.

Goldi developed the exhibition identity around the theme Hidden Wonder, inviting visitors to see crocodiles from a different perspective, through the eye of the crocodile.

Natural camouflage, intricate textures and ancient power inspired the visual language, helping create an experience that reveals another side to one of the world’s most fascinating creatures.

And this one is going places. Designed to tour nationally over the next four years, Croc! will be experienced by families, school groups and curious minds across Australia.

When branding, architecture and place come together.

SAOIR is a contemporary urban home tucked into a quiet pocket of Fortitude Valley, designed by Refresh* Studio for Architecture and built by Craft Builders.

Goldi created the brand identity and bespoke website for SAOIR, drawing on the history of the site while reflecting the simplicity, elegance and contemporary character of the home.

It’s a great example of how our branding work often intersects with the built environment. Understanding the architecture, its location and the story behind a place gives us the foundations to create an identity that genuinely belongs.

We love seeing how the final details can completely change the way a building feels.

Goldi recently completed a bespoke signage suite for 163 Arthur Street, a boutique commercial property in Fortitude Valley.

Working from concept design through to documentation, fabrication and installation, Goldi developed signage designs that respond to the architecture and material palette, with refined finishes including white powder-coated aluminium, brass lettering and recessed detailing. Flexibility was also built into the signage to allow for future tenant changes, ensuring it continues to work for the building over time.

It may be one of the final elements added to a building, but well considered signage can make a big difference to how a place looks, feels and functions.
