🙋‍♀️Are you a student dietitian wanting to learn about private practice dietetics in several specialty areas?

Nutrition Prescription is offering two 6-month student dietitian internship positions (unpaid), an experience to help you gain an insight into the life as a private practice and online dietitian running a business full-time, and see what life could be like beyond graduation👨‍🎓👩‍🎓

We work with 5 niche specialty areas:
🤢Food reactions (IBS, Intolerances, coeliac & other gut issues)
🚶‍♀️Preconception🤰Pregnancy🤱Postpartum
🚴‍♂️Sports nutrition
👨‍⚕️Bariatric surgery
👶🏻Paediatrics
as well as general nutrition.

⬇️About the Role
Over 6 months, you will work with me to develop a variety of written and visual content for our workshops, blog, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, as well as other resources and assist with projects including marketing, digital courses and digital products.

You will get to develop your written communication skills, understand the fundamentals of private practice and get the opportunity to observe consultations in our niche areas of dietetics within a supervised and supportive environment - with the benefit of mentoring along the way!🤩

Essential criteria:
☑Currently studying a recognised dietetics course at an Australian University.
☑Have a passion for nutrition & dietetics, and social media & writing
☑Organised, strong initiative and high level of commitment
☑Confident with using Canva and social media
☑Be open to critical feedback on work

🚩Desirable:
Be Geelong or Melbourne based and willing to commute on occasion to assist with workshops, clinics and attend face-to-face meetings (non-Geelong / Melbourne based applicants will still be considered).

This is my high fibre, healthy twist on traditional banana bread 🍌🍞...
👉CINNAMON FRUIT MUFFINS 🙌 are great to pack in the school lunch box or to take to work for that 3pm snack attack❗ enjoy 😍

Ingredients ➡️
🔷️ 2 🍌
🔷️ 1 🍐
🔷️ 5 medium / large 🍓
🔷️ 1/2 cup olive oil
🔷️ 2 🥚
🔷️ 1 cup wholemeal sr flour
🔷️ 1/2 cup brown sugar
🔷️ 2Tbs chia seeds
🔷️ 2tsp ground cinammon
🔷️ mixed seeds and grains to top

➡️mash up fruit, mix all ingredients together and place in greased muffin tray. Sprinkle with mixed seeds and bake @ 180 degrees until golden

👩‍🍳 What cooking appliances/ utensils do you use most often?

My friends, this is my microwave steamer. It has been in my life longer than my husband... but I ❤ them both the same (😅).
I was making dinner and actually realised I bought it almost 10 years ago when I was managing Curves gym in Penrith.

I use this almost every night in the cooler months to cook my veggies, in the summer we are more salad people.

🙋‍♀️ why is it my favourite gadget? Well these types of things make cooking more convenient i.e. quicker and with less to wash up... it calls to my within.

👩‍⚕️⁉️Most Australians, believe it or not, actually don't eat enough vegetables, so removing the obstacles of time⏰ and effort can help you to meet your daily requirements🥕🍅🥦

Let's talk about pasta 🍝
➡️myth busting time

🍝⁉️Is pasta bad? No
.
🍝⁉️wholemeal or white? I always op for wholemeal because of the fibre, but if you generally have enough fibre in your diet then no need to switch
.
🍝⁉️Is pasta bad for blood sugars? No. Wheat pasta is low Gi. Low Gi carbs digest slowly and cause a steady rise in blood glucose levels BUT having too large a portion of pasta (or any other carbohydrate) can affect your blood sugars ➡️ portion size is key
.
🍝⁉️Should we cut out carbs like pasta when trying to lose weight? Not necessarily, reducing your portion of carbs, as well as fats and protein is a good idea and boosting your non-starchy vegetable intake instead is a good strategy. E.g. add a side salad or zoodles. 👉 Remember "low carb" does not mean "no carb" and wholesome carbohydrates offer fibre, vitamins and minerals - not just energy ✔
.
🍝⁉️ Should we switch to low carb pasta when trying to lose weight or manage diabetes? If you like to eat large portions and have difficulty with portion control, these products can be reall handy, however they tend to be quite expensive so aren't too cost effective 💲💲💲
.
🍝⁉️ White sauce or red? On a regular basis, red but occasionally having a white sauce is a pleasant change, a third option for variety is using a yummy pesto 🤤
.
I tried both of these 👉 San Remo & Atkins and compared them to each other.
.
Verdict:
🔸️ taste: both pleasant 🔸️texture: both a little gritty but thats the fibre
🔸️value for money: ✔San Remo $1.95/500g ❌Atkins $4.45/250g
🔸️diabetes friendly portion size for approx 30g carb: San Remo🔎45g vs ✔ 120g Atkins
.
OVERALL for my household: 🏆controlled portion of San Remo🍝 ➕ 🥗 in a Mediterranean inspired meat and veg red sauce.... if you need to limit carbs and have a big appetite that a side salad can't fix, then the Atkins pasta is another good option. .

A lot of parents find it confusing introducing solids. ✔ The best tip I can give you is to just make your family meal and puree it .
.
Don't worry about trying every single ingredient individually because the reality is... you don't eat it like that🥣.
.
.
🙋‍♀️Worried about ALLERGIES? Stick to the high allergen foods on their own the first few exposures and once you are confident that there isn't a reaction, continue mixed into meals - the way you would serve it for yourself.
.
.
Try to pack as maaaanyyy veggies into your meals as possible too! This casserole has zucchinis, carrots, potato, mushrooms, tomato (cherry and pulp), garlic, spinach, a 🚛 load of herbs and spices, 1/2 🍷 and olive oil with a half leg of lamb... slow cooked to perfection 👌

So if you made my apple puree, keep the peels you sifted out for the baby food and mix them back in to the leftover apple puree. Do not throw away all that wonderful fibre!

🍎? 🍏? Like I said in my previous post, I don't use green apples in my desserts. I prefer to use sweeter fruits and use absolutely no sugar instead.
.
.
I always have pastry on hand, it is the easiest way to transform leftovers into something else! 🥧
.
.
👉 For pie:
- Core and slice apples
- place in a pot with 1 cup of water
- add cinnamon (optional)
- simmer until softened
- let mixture cool
- lay out a sheet of pastry on a greased baking dish
- fill with half of apple mixture
- mix remaining apple mixture with 1 cup light ricotta and cinammon
- dolop evenly on top of puree layer
- lay another pastry sheet
- bake at 180 degrees for 45mins or until pastry is cooked and golden
- serve warm, optional with 1 small scoop of low fat icecream

People ask me why I don't use green apples in my desserts. I prefer to use sweeter fruits and use absolutely no sugar instead. Keep the peel in cooking too! There is so much goodness in them and during cooking these pectins, antioxidants and fibre will come into the puree, even after sifting out the peels!

👉 For puree:
- Core and slice apples

- store in air tight containers, can be frozen for up to 3 months

I thought I would share this moment with you all. Yesterday we flew back from my sister's wedding 👰🤵💐 (congrats again @claire.fassoulidis & @pete_laga )

The passenger next to hubby felt the need to ask him about his snack choice (already approved by me) and then proceeded to tell him she was a naturopath.
.
.
The feeling you get here is similar to that of if another woman makes moves on your man!😤🤬
.
.
Not only was this unwarranted but it was also very awkward when he proceeded to tell her he's fine, he's married to an (who was sitting right next to him!)
.
.
She politely smiled and turned away for the remainder of the flight 🛫
.
.
Why didn't she want to chat after that? 🤷‍♂️
Was she just looking to snag in a gullable client who obviously knew better?
.
.
MY QUESTION ❔
If fake health professionals turn away and recognise that dietitians are the experts in nutrition, why doesn't everyone else? Why is it so easy to turn to unqualified, under skilled individuals for dietary advice? And then end up seeing a dietitian after these fakeys drain your patience and your wallet?😩
.
.
🔧We find ourselves, a lot of the time doing damage control for naturopaths and chiros who provide very poor dietary advice.
.
.
These people prey on individuals that are desperate for answers. Which unfortunately by the time they come through to us they are a lot worse off to where they started after lengthy periods of incorrect, expensive and extreme advice given 😥.
.
.
Dietitians ❤ food. We are NOT food police 👮‍♀️ we are scientists 👩‍🔬, health professionals 👩‍⚕️, highly educated 👩‍🎓 and have inner chefs 👩‍🍳.
We are trained to help, not to sell.
.
.
Note, some (very few tbh) alternative health professionals do understand their limitations and refer on when needed.
