October is Mental Health Month, and this year’s theme is a lovely one: A little connection goes a long way.
Sometimes we imagine that helping someone feel less alone requires a big gesture. Often, it doesn’t.
A quick message.
A shared cuppa.
Stopping for a proper conversation.
Remembering someone’s name.
Asking, “How are you really going?” and taking the time to listen.
These small moments can help us feel seen, valued and part of something and connection works both ways: reaching out can lift our own wellbeing too.
At GFS Perth, we believe friendship is much more than something nice to have. It is part of the social infrastructure that helps people and communities stay well.
So perhaps this week, choose one small act of connection. Send the message. Make the call. Invite someone for coffee. Say hello to the person you usually pass by.
A little connection really can go a long way. 💚

☕ Great coffee. Greater purpose. Could this be your next chapter?
You know how to make excellent coffee, keep things running smoothly and make people feel welcome. Now imagine bringing those skills to a café where friendship and care for creation are at the heart of what we do.
We’re looking for a full-time Café & Shop Coordinator to help bring The Friendly Fig to life at Friendship Central in West Swan.
This is a hands-on opportunity to help build something from the beginning: shaping the menu, setting up practical systems and creating a welcoming café and shop alongside our GFS Perth team and volunteers.
🌿 Beautiful Swan Valley setting
☕ Primarily daytime work
💛 $80,000 plus superannuation
Perhaps you’re an experienced barista ready to step up, a hospitality supervisor looking for a fresh challenge, or a café professional wanting your work to have a wider purpose. We’d love to hear from you.
Bring your skills, initiative and warmth and help us create somewhere people come for coffee and return for connection.
We’re preparing for our November launch, so please send your CV today to [email protected].
Not for you, but someone comes to mind? Please tag them or share this post. Your introduction could help us find just the right person. 🌻
