A community heritage rail group will be able to better preserve and protect rail history thanks to a grant from Queensland Rail.

Late last year, to celebrate 160 years of rail in Queensland, $160,000 dollars in community grants was awarded to support not-for-profit rail heritage organisations.

DownsSteam, a volunteer-run tourist railway in Toowoomba, was one of eight recipients of a grant.

The Australasian Railway Association (ARA) has co-launched a bi-partisan group to help elevate the profile of the rail industry with federal politicians.

So far, 28 federal politicians have signed up as official supporters of the Parliamentary Friends of Rail.

Detailed designs have been released for Stage 1 of the Beerburrum to Nambour (B2N) Rail Upgrade in Queensland.

The project will:
- realign the existing rail line between Beerburrum and Glass House Mountains
- remove three level crossings
- expand park ‘n’ ride facilities at Beerburrum, Nambour and Landsborough
- deliver a range of new or upgraded rail and road infrastructure to improve safety.
