Yesterday I went for my usual walk in the evening & I have to tell you the smell of spring is in the air 🤩🌷🪴🌺

Now for some of you this is the start of a season of itchy eyes, sinus flares & scratchy throats 😮‍💨🤧😵‍💫
So I know you may not be excited for this ❌

I want you to know that there is help & it doesn’t come in the form of antihistamines, but rather addressing your immune system is key here ✅

You are not antihistamine deficient & if this has been your resolution; your healthcare provider doesn’t understand how Hayfever works!

I know I say this often but I feel I need to repeat it given the conversations I’m having in clinic 🌿

If I had a dollar for every time I hear “nope! I don’t have any gut issues! My gut is fine 👌🏻”

Then as we delve deeper into the consultation, it’s revealed YOU DO in-fact have gut issues but haven’t listened to your body!

If you told me that healing your nervous system would help you with healing your relationship with food; I would not have believed you!

But here I am nourishing my body with healthy nutrient filled macros daily & feeling great 👌🏻

As we get older our requirements for nutrients change, we tend to lean into nutrient dense food that supports our hormones more.

But for me there’s been another layer that I’ve embraced since leaning towards the big 50 & that’s my relationship with food 🤎

You see for a while I was under-eating, perceived as healthy clean eating & expecting my body to thrive!

Then came lockdowns, stress, heartbreak, nervous system dis-regulation, alcohol abuse & everything about my body as I knew it “broke”! I actually felt like I broke my body!
Nothing I knew was working to make feel better, the herbs, the nutrients, the healthy eating that once helped me bounce back; nothing was working 😔

I was, as a Naturopath, spinning out of control & I couldn’t help myself!

Then came my hip replacement operation, more stress, more distress with the infection & I barely recognised myself both inside & out 😔

Since I’ve been on an journey of healing my nervous system & it’s been a long road but it’s been worth it because I can finally see the light on the other side, I can connect with my body again, I can rely on my intuition to tell me what I need & how to nourish myself every new day ✨

I can finally see myself & love who stares back at me 🥹💜

is a reminder that you are amazing & your body knows what you need, sometimes you may lose your way, & that’s ok! But return back to your body for wisdom & don’t be afraid to ask for help along the way 🤗

If you are suffering & can’t see a way forward with your health please know there is light on the other side!
Ask for help 💜 We can’t do all things alone & when we’re emotional we are likely not focusing on what we should be.

Do you scroll your phone while eating?
Do you watch TV while eating?
Do you work while eating?

Doing these things while eating may be contributing to your bloating, not digesting properly or even experiencing symptoms of IBS.

You see when we do other things while eating we are not dedicating our breath to eating, we are not in a relaxed nervous system state that allows for proper digestion to happen.

We are in fact in a stressed state while doing these things, while we may not perceive it as such our body signals otherwise because:
You might get an email that upsets you = stress
You might read a sad post = stress
You might hear a terrible news story = stress
& again while these things may not cause physical stress they are continuous little stresses that are enough to take away energy from digesting our food.

I encourage you to dedicate time away from all distractions while eating & see how you feel over a week or 2, or even better go outside while eating, get some blue light into your eyes, do some deep breathing before you begin to eat, be present with every fork full 🙌🏻✨

Digestion isn’t just about what we eat it’s also how we eat & our habits while eating.

I think you either absolutely love it or you hate it…….

I absolutely love Ginger but I keep forgetting how amazing it is during winter 😣

It’s one of those herbs that feels like a warm hug when you drink it ☺️ & for good reason because it’s a warming herb, it also supports our circulation 👌🏻

Stop saying you “can’t meditate”!
You CAN meditate & you probably do it unconsciously at times 🤗

To meditate is not to stop thinking
It’s to focus on something & become conscious of your breath 🧘🏼‍♀️

Now with that in mind; I want you to go into next week knowing that you can take a 5 minute break to meditate & come back to your body when you need it 🌸🤍

I’ve had a few conversations about this with my clients this week so thought it may help someone else also 🙂

Have you ever felt like no matter what you eat on holidays, it doesn’t cause the same issues as some foods you eat at home?

The reason for this can be a few but the most likely answer is;
- when we are on holidays or simply away from the daily hustle; our nervous system is in a relaxed state, this allows us to digest better.
This can be an indication that we are normally eating in a stressed state or not breathing enough throughout the day, I mean good quality deep belly conscious breathing.
Stress impacts the way our digestive enzymes are secreted to how well our bowels move.

So while it can be due to the food & how it’s grown or prepared it is most likely due to the state of your nervous system.

What you can do daily to help your digestive system work like it does on holiday:
- do some conscious box breathing before you eat
- eat away from your desk
- don’t eat while scrolling your phone

I saw these questions the other day & thought to myself “what amazing questions to ponder daily”

What can I do today to be able to say “YES” to these questions tomorrow? 🤔

As I get older these questions are beginning to be really important because I want to thrive when I’m older, I don’t want anyone looking after me because “I found it too hard to look after myself now”.

You see the older I get the more I realise that independence in my later years is what I want & to ensure I have a chance at that it’s what I do now that will determine my independence when I’m older ✨

It can’t be a case of I’ll deal with it when I get there because by then I won’t have options, all I’ll have is medication to keep you alive but not thriving & that’s not what I envision for me 💛

This why I love what I do because while I am working a lot with clients who have health concerns now the end goal is a healthy long life well into our later years 🤗

So ask yourself today these 3 questions:
Are you happy?
Are you healthy?
What are you doing today to improve your longevity?

WINTER SOLSTICE 🩵

Today the earth invites us to stop & appreciate 🍁
Appreciate what we have & be grateful for what’s coming.

Winter is a time of hibernation, so it’s normal to slow down & use this time to work on things you want to harvest later in the year.

We are gifted with the longest night & shortest day today; further inviting us to slow down & nurture the body with deep
Sleep.

It’s also a great time to slow down & checkin with yourself ✨

What changes can we make during this time to help us thrive?
Your emotional health is super important as we change seasons.
Our diet is also important as we change seasons; what worked in summer energetically may not work in winter.

Winter brings more warming food, this can be more teas, soups, stews etc.

So you’ve had your stool tested with your GP & everything comes back “normal” yet you are still experiencing issues daily………..
HOW?? WHY?

Because a stool test isn’t a GI MAP test or any other functional GI test!

A stool test is a very basic test for blood in stools, the most common; infections, bacteria, viruses or parasites.

Such sad new this evening with the passing of the amazing Dr. Michael Mosley 😢

Dr Michael Mosley co-founded The Fast 800 Online Programme in 2018, based on years of research.

Especially if you are going through a stressful phase in your life - you are allowed to let it out!

Women going through perimenopause; you to have permission to release!
The only way to step into the next phase in our lives is to release the old parts of that we are so desperately hanging onto, the emotions that no longer serve us!

Crying releases oxytocin and endogenous opioids, also known as endorphins.
These chemicals can alleviate both physical and emotional pain. When endorphins are released, your body might experience a numb stage.
Oxytocin can induce a sense of calm or well-being. 🌸

I get asked daily by people who’s health history I have no idea about “what’s the best thing for gut healing/health?”

My reply: depends on what’s going on in your gut, liver, bowels, microbiome, how many daily bowel movements you have, are you hydrated, how’s your nutrition, your sleep, your stress, you see gut healing is not simply about probiotics, it’s the greater picture & getting to the underlying thing driving your overall gut health 🌿

But don’t let this freak you out because addressing these aspects isn’t complicated once you know how to apply specific daily actions to support these areas.

Food Intolerances 🥴

Can I put a different perspective on this?

You didn’t just “become” intolerant to dairy; your immune system is dis regulated & your gut health may be an issues, so you are now reacting to dietary proteins.

I can bet you will soon react to wheat/gluten also.

I would work on your gut health.
Glutamine is great, especially if there may be any leaky gut present, which is usually the cause of dietary intolerances.

These issues are very common & easily supported when you know the right protocol to use 👌🏻🌿

When I speak to my clients about Gut Health & Healing most only think about the stomach but Gut Health is the WHOLE digestive system 👌🏻
