2026 Conference Update‼️
We’re absolutely blown away by the response to the Queensland Homelessness Conference, hosted by Homelessness Queensland taking place in Cairns, 26–28 May 2026.

The level of passion and innovation coming from across Queensland and the country has been extraordinary- with an overwhelming number of submissions showcasing partnerships, lived experience, research, and practice that are driving real change.

We’re especially excited about our keynote speakers… but we’re not letting anything out of the bag just yet 👀
What makes this event different is its focus on systems thinking across the entire human services sector- recognising that homelessness doesn’t exist in isolation, and that solutions must connect housing, health, justice, education, and community.

From prevention and early intervention to First Nations leadership, system reform, and lived-experience-led practice- this event marks the beginning of a new chapter for Queensland’s homelessness sector!

📢 Youth Homelessness Matters Day – 16 April 2025 📢

Young people facing homelessness show incredible strength, determination, and resilience in the face of unimaginable challenges. But resilience alone is not enough—they need real solutions, real investment, and real action.

🚨 The Reality in Australia (2023-24):
🔹 43,226 children and young people (under 25) sought help from specialist homelessness services alone.
🔹 1 in 2 young people who tried to get a bed in crisis accommodation were turned away.
🔹 1 in 3 young people presenting alone to homelessness services identified as Indigenous.
🔹 29,114 young people needed long-term housing, but only 3.8% received it.

This is unacceptable.

Every young person deserves a safe place to call home—not just a shelter for a night, but real pathways to stability, education, and employment. The solutions exist, but we need urgent investment in specialist youth housing, mental health support, and early intervention programs.

💡 How You Can Help:
✔️ Raise awareness by sharing this post.
✔️ Advocate for change by contacting your local MP.
✔️ Support youth homelessness services through donations or volunteering.

Together, we can break the cycle of youth homelessness and create a future where no (young) person is left without a home.

🧐Regional Forum Insights:

As Homelessness Queensland recognises the input and insights from well over 120 services statewide throughout our place based forums, key themes are emerging that are consolidating our understandings from our 2024 research and sector conversations.

🗣We are hearing loud and clear:

✨ Consistency & Support – A unified approach with accessible tools, resources, training, and support is in high need.

✨ Collaboration & Shared Principles – Strengthening our collective impact as a broader service system is a must for more place led work.

✨ Information Sharing – Breaking down intra- and inter-sector barriers is key to progress.

✨ Transformational Change – There is a sector-wide appetite for outcomes-focused practice.

✨ Regional Governance – Place-led ecosystems are needed that:

-Address systemic issues across human services, not just housing and homelessness.
-Enable regional, not centralised, innovation.
-Provide timely, 360° feedback and amplify a collective voice.
-Supervision & Workforce Support – A structured, human-centered supervision framework led by trained staff to balance practice, learning, and development.

Despite the challenges of the current crisis, regional forums highlight a path forward. The ‘four corners of the jigsaw’ may already exist—our task is to align, test, and harmonise efforts for a seamless, impactful approach.

Thank you to all services contributing so far!
