Have you been to Bellingen in NSW yet? When we were deciding where to live back in 2019, Steve found an article hidden deep within the internet about how Bellingen was like Byron Bay 20 years ago. So when we decided to check it out, we instantly fell in love with the place for the friendly people, incredible swimming holes, hikes, food, and art scene. It ticked all of our boxes, so within a year we were about to sign a contract to move into a rental there.

But, the day before we were about to sign, the pandemic lockdown was about to begin. My freelance income disappeared over night and we had to pull out.

Since that day, we decided to stay put in Queensland which is where we were during the pandemic as we were pet sitting at the time. And as you know, our Queensland adventure is still going strong three years on.

Whenever we come back to Bellingen, we both instantly feel at home and know one day we will end up back here as we intended to.

But for now, here’s a snippet as to why we love this little place so much from a collection of videos I’ve taken every time we visit here. If you’d like to find out more about this beautiful little part of NSW, you can check out our travel guide in the link in our bio or in our stories because there’s loads of other amazing places worthy to be in this video, but I couldn’t find the footage👌🏻

Next time you’re on a road trip up the east coast, put the Capricorn Coast on your list to visit. If I didn’t end up living nearby for a couple of years, I would have never known what a hidden gem it really is!

While the main city is Rockhampton, it’s the incredible places nearby you need to put on your list to visit.

📍blackdown tablelands is one of those places you have to see for yourself. The walk to the incredible swimming hole is just 30 minutes where you can actually swim from one hole to the next. The steps down to the falls is absolutely mind blowing, that you think it could be a movie set because it’s that incredible. It’s got to be the most magical place I’ve been to in Australia.

📍The big Van Gogh sits in the mining town of emerald, the biggest easel I’ve ever seen!

📍Capricorn caves - now we’ve seen a lot of caves before but wow, this one blew us away! As one of the largest privately owned caves in Australia, you can actually get married in one of the caves where they hold opera performances as well throughout the year. Speaking of, Steve tested the acoustics with his opera voice and it was pretty amazing! And did you know it was the first tourist attraction in Australia too?

📍Carnarvon Gorge is every hikers dream and is voted one of the best walks in Australia. When we went it was so hot, we walked over 40km through the gorge on a 40C day 🥵 but it’s worth it, and is absolutely incredible with some of the best Aboriginal rock art in Australia.

📍Byfield national park - When we visited Yeppoon, we asked the locals what the number 1 thing we should do and they all said byfield national park, so we went to check it out and wow, the swimming hole is so beautiful, we saw fresh water turtles swimming in it!

📍Yeppoon is a beautiful coastal town that overlooks the southern Great Barrier Reef islands. There’s plenty of beaches to choose from, cool street art throughout the town, and is somewhere we considered moving to.

📍 great keppel island is a beautiful island in the southern Great Barrier Reef is just $50 return ferry ride, perfect for a day trip or getaway with one of the best rated beaches in Australia!

Ohm (Open Heart and Mind)

OHM aims to develop a new type of
decentralised, autonomous organisation that fairly
recognises and rewards the full range of value
that individuals contribute to the collective effort.
We're achieving this by developing (1) a radically
transparent workspace that can track every single
contribution to the collective mission, and (2) a
custom app that plugs into this workspace and
solicits crowd-feedback on the relative value of
each contribution.

On the occasion of day! Use the link below to find the stripes for where you live and post it on your social media.

The warming stripes are a visual representation of how temperature has changed in locations around the world. They were created by Ed Hawkins, a climate scientist from the University of Reading in the UK. He also created the "warming spiral" graphic that was used during the closing ceremonies of the Rio Olympics.

Each stripe represents a year. Blue means it's colder than average. White means it's about average. Pink means it's warmer. And red means it's a LOT warmer!

How can you spread the word? Post the graphic for where you live on your social media account. Order a mask or hat or a t-shirt with the warming stripes and wear it around and tell people about it when they ask. (I'm getting a dress made that I can wear during my presentations!) Knit a warming stripes scarf or crochet a warming stripes blanket - Tempestry has yarn kits you can order.

As you know, talking about is the number 1 most important thing each of us can do, and the warming stripes are a great way to get the conversation started!
