Walk Brisbane - Small Group Walking Tours

See more of Brisbane in a few hours than most see in a few days. Fun, private and small group, guided walking tours of Brisbane, Australia.

Operating as usual

With the Brisbane River still closed to City Cats and many other river craft we are loving the stillness of the river which allows for some beautiful reflections. But, we are missing our much loved City Cats to get us around the City!!

Photos from Walk Brisbane - Small Group Walking Tours's post 16/03/2022

Monday this week was a big day for us. We welcomed our first truly international guests back on a City Essentials tour. It was almost 2 years to the day that our last international guest was here. We will always remember Ryan, Timothy, Matt and Joshua as the ‘drought breakers’

A week ago today the Brisbane River was reaching it's peak as the full impact of the 2022 floods was beginning to to emerge. In that short week so much has happened as friends, neighbours and strangers all pitched in to help out those that had been affected. . Gaill, our resident poet and guide penned this short poem, which says it all....

The swimming pools at Southbank Parklands are off limits for people. Doesn’t seem to be stopping the seagulls having a good time.

Brisbane has had enormous rainfall over the last few days and parts of our beautiful City is now flooding. We feel for everyone who has suffered this weekend, and wanted to share some joy. While we were out this evening we saw this amazing rainbow over Kangaroo Point. There is gold out there 🌈🌈

Fun fact…… today’s date (22 February 2022) is both a palindrome and an ambigram, which means the date will read the same from left to right, right to left and upside down! When is the next time this will happen?

We were on Kookaburra River Cruise on Brisbane River tonight and were treated to a beautiful fireworks display just near the Sometimes you just get lucky!

As we leave 2021 behind we are excited for 2022. No doubt there are still going to be some challenges but we are looking very forward to welcoming visitors back to Brisbane next year. From our team to you - Happy New Year! 🥳 🎉🎇

Have you been to Van Gogh Alive at Northshore yet? Absolutely worth a visit to learn more about this amazing artist. It’s on until the end of January.

Brisbane Arcade has really outdone itself this year. Their Christmas display is beautiful 🎄🎁 It's a lovely place to shop for something special.

This year's Jacaranda flowers seem to have been brighter than previous years, or maybe we are appreciating them more? They will only be with us for the next few weeks, so enjoy them while you can.

Police guard residences in Hawthorne Street, Woolloongabba during the Bubonic Plague epidemic of 1900.
This is where the first case of Bubonic Plague occurred in Brisbane. The house on the left of the photo was occupied by James Drevesen, the first patient. Drevesen was a cart driver employed to remove goods from the wharves where dead and plague-infected rats were found.
The disease continued to appear in isolated cases in Brisbane until 1907.
Twenty-five deaths were recorded from fifty-six reported cases of the disease.

Alderley, Enoggera, Everton Pk, Mitchelton, Keperra & Ferny Grove 04/08/2021

Interesting to learn about the Indigenous roots of how the suburb Enoggera came to be!

The Indigenous name for Enoggera/Breakfast Creek was Yow-oggera or Yu-oggera. However the survey office misspelt the name of the creek on early maps, replacing the 'u' with an 'n' resulting in Yn-oggera, pronounced Enoggera, from which the suburb gets its name.
