Clear Sky Performance Horses

Clear Sky is a family operated Stud and proud owner of the Outstanding performance stallion 'Acres o

Operating as usual

As some of you may be aware we will be on a bit of a hiatus for a few months due to Rhys having undergone reconstructive knee surgery this week. All going well we will be back taking outside horses for training in late spring. Breeding season will commence and run as per normal.

Under doctors advice (which isn’t always my strong point) we will be easing back into the training / starting under saddle and may have to be a bit selective about the horses we take on for a while. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch though and discuss your needs and we will do our best to cater for them. CSPH will again be heading to the Nutrien sale in Feb 2023 in Tamworth. We will be taking on outside horses for sale preparation and we will have a few sale packages available to clients to choose from. Please feel free to get in touch for further details.

We will also be looking to doing more clinics once underway again with a focus on colt starting/ young horse clinics, general horsemanship clinics and also cattle work clinics. As more information and dates become available we will pass that on to you all. We thank you all for your support and look forward to seeing you and your horses again later in the year.

Clear Sky Performance Horses would like to congratulate Shelby Park Quarter Horses and Shelby Park Jack Frost for their win at the 3yr old snaffle bit reining futurity yesterday. Jack Frost is by our resident sire Acres of Frost and was started under saddle here as a 2yr old. A big congratulations also to KLS Equine for training and showing Jack Frost. Big future in front of this one we feel.

Thankyou Scott Keilar and Shannon Keilar for seeing the potential in this fella - and bringing it to the fore today!
Highly recommend KLS Equine - we can’t thank you enough x

A big thank you to the Southern Forests Campdraft for a excellent event on the weekend. Clearsky Cold Chisel had a few great runs and was able to come away with the win in the Barn Hill Novice Campdraft. Thank you to all the sponsors and cattle donors for the Novice draft and the weekend as a whole. Their support of the event was outstanding and it made for a great weekend. Already looking forward to next year. Campdraft photo credit to Rustic Pics of Chisel in rnd 1 of the novice. Barn Hill Beachside Station Stay Southern Forests Campdraft

Better late than never but CSPH would like to thank all its clients who entrusted us to either compete, sell, purchase or transport horses to and from the Nutrien classic sale in Tamworth. It was a successful two weeks in Tamworth with all the sale horses selling for above reserve prices as well as managing to secure 7 horses for clients, some of which will stay in training with CSPH in preparation for future classic competitions. We are back underway with a full book of horses in training as well as already planning for Nutrien 2023. Once again thank you to all our clients both those involved with the Nutrien sale and also those at home here in WA for their patience over this busy period.

Video of Clearsky Cold Chisel, full brother to Lot 240 Clearsky Cold Case

Lot 634 TMQ Stylish Time (on account of Trade Mark Quarter Horses) is a sweet natured 4yr old mare by the great sire in Times Up. She has been bought along steadily and would suit the challenge and campdraft arena very well. Out of an NCHA money earning Dmac Daddy mare, Stylin is one to watch.

Lot 240 ‘Clearsky Cold Case’. Lovely natured, soft, 2yr old gelding who is smooth travelling and willing. Full and three quarter siblings are Campdraft and challenge winnners. Case is sired by ‘Acres of Frost’ who has won 10+ open drafts, Encouragement drafts, Juvenile drafts and 40+ cut outs. Case is an easy horse to be around and is a genuine classic and challenge prospect.

The mare on the left in the first photo is Beansville Spotlight. She’s 22 years old and is due any day now with her 10th foal. She’s in foal to Acres of Frost which will be the 5th foal for this combination. The mare on the right is her 5yr old daughter Clearsky Arctic Light (by Acres of Frost) with her first foal, a colt by The Huntsman, at foot. Pretty cool seeing the bloodlines continue through and watching what they produce.

It’s been a slow start to the foaling here (everyone else is nearly finished) but we’ve finally got at least one on the ground. A chestnut colt by The Huntsman out of Darlea Miss Topsy (Acres Destiny x Playboy Roy). A pretty bright little fella and so far doing all the right things.

Nothing makes me happier than a shed full of Australian Premium Feeds hay and their Elite chaff ( if you haven’t tried it, check it out. All the benefits of Lucerne chaff but at a better price and more consistent quality). Especially when I can unload nearly 200 bales of hay and 40 bags of chaff in 10 minutes 👌🏼

CSPH is fully booked this year for training / starting under saddle but our books are open for 2022. If you would like to secure a spot for your horse in our program for 2022, don’t hesitate to get in touch and have a chat to us about your horse and what we can do for you.

*** There may be small training spots (a week or two here or there) still available this year with cancellations etc so if you are interested in short term training get in touch as well and we may be able to slot you in sooner than 2022 if spots become available

The Huntsman chilling with the Equissage at Mayanup draft after his on the weekend after winning the cut out and putting up a good score to make the finals of the Novice. The Equissage unit got a solid workout this weekend ensuring all the horses were primed and ready to go and aided in quick recoveries between runs. Melissa Versteegen Nicole Zilko

Very privileged to get the ride on this guy on behalf of Devilscreek Performance Horses. Song N Dance Man ran an 88 & 90 for a 178 to be second by one point in the Novice campdraft at Mayanup draft. This is his first start apart from the Classic at Nutrien. Super little horse with a big future infront of him and I’m very greatful to be able run him.

The Huntsman snuck in for 8th place and top cut out in the novice as well.

Took delivery of these two cracking geldings today on behalf of their owner Kylie Rowe. Welcome to the West ‘Barnlodge Gismo’ and ‘Song n Dance Man’ both purchased out of the 2021 Nutrien Classic sale. Looking forward to running a few cows on these guys soon. Nutrien Equine - Performance

Another benefit of the Equissage. This youngster could be quite touchy / nervous around his back end and not the greatest to shoe. Stick the Equissage on while doing the backs and he was perfect. So much more relaxed and made it a much more enjoyable experience for him which helps set him up for future shoeing. Melissa Versteegen Nicole Zilko

Line up of maiden gelding we are drafting or starting to draft this year. Also the reason why we can’t have nice things as they destroy pretty much everything.

When people ask what sort of horses do we start here at CSPH? The simple answer is Absolutely Everything 😂

These two are chalk and cheese in terms of size but they are still both getting a quality start to their ridden career and will go on to make great horses in what ever area their owners choose.

So I did a thing for Christmas and bought a drone. From now on this is how I’m checking horses (epic music and all) 👌🏼

It’s not just the performance horses that are loving the Equissage. We have been using it on the youngsters being started under saddle as well. This filly is currently being started and can be a bit touchy/sensitive but she really enjoys her treatments and it definitely helps her relax and also enjoy her time learning to tie up and stand patiently. We are always looking for ways to improve what we do here at CSPH and being apart of Team Equissage WA has helped us take another big step in the right direction for all our horses in work.

Here’s some food for thought:
How often do you hear people say ‘oh my horse is aftraid of my legs or spurs’ so they don’t use either their legs properly or spurs (no Spurs on a horse is fine by the way, but it’s the logic of it I’m referring to here) but you almost never hear them say ‘my horse is afraid of my hands’ and they have no hesitation putting all sorts of things in their horse’s mouths 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️

We are very proud to announce that Clear Sky Performance Horses has joined Team Equissage WA. Being able to partner up with such a quality team with quality products to match will be a big plus for all the horses here at CSPH. I dare say the humans and the outstanding guard dog (if any of you have met Gator, you’ll understand) may pinch it regularly as well. Clearsky Cold Chisel was first in line to test out the new Equissage and I’d say he rather enjoyed it.

Can you guess what we’ve added?? Hint it’s a bit of extra support for all the horses here at CSPH. Great to have these guys on board 😁 Reveal coming soon

Sometimes the best runs aren’t the highest scoring of fastest. This horse has only just started drafting but had gotten quite strong in the bridle when running outside. I was asked to draft him to see if he would settle and regain his confidence while chasing cattle. Pretty pleased with the results. We also ran an 85 in his other run and made the maiden final. Very confident he’ll go on to be a handy little drafter.

Was a bit wet last weekend at Dardanup Draft but still had a great time. All the horses worked well with Handsdown Diamond putting a few around for third in the maiden in her first start at a draft. Congratulations to her owner Kylie Rowe , she’s a cracking little mare. The Huntsman was also solid all weekend, no luck outside but won the Novice cut out and ran off for the open cut out.

Thanks to the Dardanup committee for a great weekend of drafting and cattle.

Heading off to Dardanup draft. 5 genuine maiden horses, 2 novices and and an open. 3 geldings, 3 mares and 2 stallions. It’s a pretty good mix this weekend. Showdown Rugs Australian Premium Feeds Beachport Liquid Minerals

She’s consistent, Hanks Playgirl, had her foal (by Acres of Frost) for the second year in a row on the Saturday while I’m away at Gingin draft.

Clearsky Miss Cool Jen ( named after the lady who helped me find her mother and brought her back to WA for me) is half sister to Miss Topsy (draft winner) and full sister to Cold Chisel (challenge and cattle work winner). She’s also Playgirls first filly since Topsy and breaks the run of 6 colts. It’s been a long wait but glad to have her on the ground.
