I am a certified ‘Connection, Cooperation & Control (CCC)’ Instructor in Geelong, Australia & am now offering the ‘CCC’ 6wk Course to Dog owners.
Operating as usual
We need to consider that what we tend to view as ‘distractions’ are in fact our dog’s ‘interests’. Dogs gather an abundance of information through their nose. Have patience & allow your dog the opportunity to sniff.
Love this! Thanks @silentcanineconversations for this gentle reminder to let dogs be dogs.
Make sure to keep your dog away from these 🥴
There are two types of poisonous wild mushrooms commonly found in Victoria at this time of year.
◾ The Yellow-staining mushroom looks like an edible mushroom, but it causes severe abdominal symptoms if eaten.
◾ The Death Cap mushroom can be fatal if eaten. One Death Cap contains enough toxin to kill an average-sized adult.
It is very difficult to tell the difference between toxic and edible varieties of wild mushroom, even if using a mushroom identification app.
Experts strongly recommend that you do not eat mushrooms you find growing wild as there is a serious risk of misidentifying mushrooms, which can have major consequences for your health.
Only a mushroom expert or ‘mycologist’ can tell if a wild mushroom is safe to eat.
To prevent mushroom poisoning, do not eat mushrooms you find growing wild. Only eat mushrooms purchased from a shop or food market, and carefully remove and dispose of any wild mushrooms you find in your garden.

We ALL repeat what’s rewarding & avoid what’s not. It’s really as simple as that 😉. What does your dog find rewarding?
I explain the science simply, so it’s easy to understand.
Another Private lesson with this lovely young Golden girl 🥰. This visit though was to help with the fearful behaviour she’s now developed after a having a couple of unfortunate incidents with unknown dogs, one off lead 😞. It only takes one scary incident to change a dog. It will now take time & consistent effort to try to build this girl’s confidence around other dogs, as well as her owner’s confidence which has also been shattered. Not all dogs get along with each other & not all dogs who meet want to ‘play’. It’s time we humans understand & recognise this, otherwise we place our dogs in unsafe situations 😔.
LIVE WEBINAR - Quick - Hit PAUSE! Using Controlled Set-ups for Reactive Dogs - Thursday, May 26th at 2pm EST.
Handlers of reactive dogs struggle to find ways to help their dogs feel less worried, overwhelmed or pushed past their thresholds. But progress can be slow, particularly if the dog continues to be triggered despite the handler’s best efforts.
As a behavior consultant, I work with many handlers who are discouraged or frustrated. In many cases, there are holes in the training plan. Inevitably, the training falls apart, the dog is triggered, the handler is embarrassed or upset. Why does this happen so often?
This webinar dives into what you need to know to help reactive dogs through carefully controlled set-ups.
- Training in the wild?
- Pause button or uncontrolled variables?
- Understanding your dog’s triggers (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, olfactory, social, chase)
- The holy trinity of dog training: Distance, intensity & duration
- Using Line of View and Field of View in the real world
The webinar is just $24.95 if you register before the event, afterwards it will be $34.95. You can register now at:

There’s still time to catch this webinar with Suzanne Clothier 🐾❤️! Do yourself a favour 😉👍
NEW live webinar - Green Eggs and Ham and - Dog Training? The Power of Behavioral Flexibility - just one week away - Thursday, May 12th at 2pm EST.
Is your dog behaviorally flexible? What does that even mean. Think about what your dog knows. Where does your dog know it? Borrowing a bit from Dr. Seuss' famous Green Eggs & Ham, could she do it:
* in a house
* with a mouse
* in a box
* with a fox
* with a goat
* on a boat?
The webinar is just $24.95 if you register before the event, afterwards it will be $34.95. You can register now at: https://relationshipcenteredtraining.thinkific.com/courses/GreenEggsAndHam

Where Is Karen Pryor, and What Is She Still Teaching Us? | Karen Pryor Clicker Training In 2017, when Karen retired from her management role at Karen Pryor Clicker Training, we asked her what she was looking forward to most in her next chapter. She said she was looking forward to the opportunity to get back to her naturalist roots.
Another private lesson with this darling Lab ❤️🥰. Today we worked on different ways to re-engage your dog around distractions when out walking & to help manage & reduce pulling. Training your dog is not just about teaching ’them’. It also involves teaching yourself new habits 😉.
Beautiful pups 🤗❤️! Some belated pics of these lovelies from their Puppy Class before Easter @southvalley_vetclinic 😍.
Private lesson with this gorgeous 9week old baby Akita puppy ❤️🥰! He’s going to be a big, strong boy! His new family have recognised that it will require time & training to raise their boy so as to help him become the best that he can be & a wonderful dog to live with.
A puppy’s education begins in the litter with their mother. When we take a puppy into our hearts & home, it’s our responsibility to continue that learning & help our dog develop skills to help them cope in life ahead 😉.
Happy Easter everyone!
Private Lesson with this beautiful & lively Chocolate Lab 🥰❤️. Her family is struggling with her adolescent stage at the moment which is a developmental stage that many find difficult. She’s a really lovely, social & biddable girl. Some training to help her learn a more calm & controlled way to get the things that she wants will make a big difference here 😉. Looking forward to our next lesson 🤗🐾!
Dog Owners - Please be aware that pindone baiting is about to commence at various reserves in Geelong & Surrounding Areas.
Some puppy pics here from the weekend’s Puppy classes 🤗❤️. It can be difficult getting clear shots of busy puppies 😅. It’s certainly fun trying though 😂.

When considering bringing a dog into our life & home, it is important to first research the breed, the job the dog was bred to do & the skills/behaviour required to do that job. Dogs are a long term commitment. Choose wisely & realistically 😉.
I recommend, if you haven't gotten a dog yet. please, please, read up about ANY dog you are looking at, what they were bred for. Genetics are HARDWIRED in. PURPOSE breeding, for jobs. you can't just train it out..or train some jobs in. some dogs are more suited for certain jobs, because of that. just browse this for some small examples. and understand, when someone starts crossing breeds, from opposite groups, you can get a genetic train wreck. ask any serious trainer, or ethical breeder (ones who breed for a purpose, and health test). if you already have a dog, figure out where it needs to be. IN the house, IN a kennel, in the yard. under direct supervision. under direct direction. or living with the stock. (I did this album for another group, and some people asked about sharing, so placing here for sharing. some of the pics have credits on them. some were just on the www (will give credit if owners see). the Gamprs & Cairns are, mine, Novelty Farm.
I use a very simple & easy method to teach a dog to ‘Give’. Rather than waiting for those dramatic moments to arise, it pays to teach to your dog to ‘Give’ well before they find your voodoo doll 😄.
Congratulations to these sweethearts, ‘Kwazzi’ & ‘Hugo’, who finished their Baby Puppy Classes this week 🤗❤️!
When you bring a puppy into your life you take on the responsibility of raising that puppy to be the best adult that they can be. It doesn’t happen automatically. It does not happen without your input. Love is not enough. Help your dog learn. Put in the time to guide & train your dog & reap the benefits. It’s up to you.
‘I am not a Robot ☑️’.
Dogs, like us, are emotional beings. If a dog is reacting/expressing concern about something, we need to recognize that they are not coping in that situation & support them rather than place unreasonably high expectations on them.
"Reactive" dog? How about "living and breathing" dog?
We are all reactive to something. Something gets a rise out of all of us. For me, I react to loud noises. Rude people in public. Unkind emails. Aggressive drivers. There's more; it's a very long list. I react bigger and more negatively when I am in pain, haven't eaten, or haven't slept. Knowing this about myself has helped me not only take better care of my needs so that I do not react poorly but has also helped me guide my dogs through reactions they might have with more compassion. It is a hard thing to look at our own reactions in order to understand our dogs better, but it is worth doing.
Today's We Can Do Hard Things prompt: what are YOU reactive to that doesn't help your dog?

Puppy Class, Puppy Class ❤️❤️❤️
These little sweethearts started their Puppy Classes recently 😊. Joy on 4 legs ❤️
Puppy Class 🤗❤️! It’s been quite awhile since I’ve posted pics 😬! Time to share the puppy love!
There’s a time & a place for everything. This includes when your dog does, or doesn’t, wish to be touched. With our strong desire for self gratification, we tend to ignore or disregard how ‘the dog’ feels about the experience in that moment. See the dog 🙏.
Dog Patting: Why Doesn't My Dog Like Getting Petted “Oh, Pumpkin just loves petting, don’t you, Pumpkin?” Martha said, patting her Cocker Spaniel on top of his head as he tried to investigate the office. Pumpkin’s guardian had come to me for some advice about behavioral issues, and was clearly a woman who loved her dog as we all, human or dog...
Had a lesson today with this adorable 10yr old rescue ❤️. With his 5 teeth remaining (due to the rest needing removal) & a drooping lip, it only added to the charm that this little man holds 🥰. He’s a worried little dude though, very wary of people & concerned about other dogs. So today I helped his human with her understanding of his behaviour & recognition of his emotional shifts, as well as helping them both learn some basic behaviours & fun games/skills which will help her to easily move him away from &/or manage situations that he‘s unable to cope with.
