Leadership in aesthetic medicine starts with responsibility. That's something I take seriously every day.
Over the years I have watched our industry grow, with more nurses entering aesthetics and bringing real energy and ambition with them. That growth comes with a responsibility too, to keep learning, to support each other and to hold the line on what good, ethical care looks like. It's part of why I recently joined the Clinical Advisory Committee for Instant Cosmetics, working alongside a group of people I genuinely respect in this field. Looking forward to what we can build together for the future of this industry.

Last weekend I was in Sydney as part of the InstantCosmetics Clinical Advisory Committee — a group of handpicked nurses and NPs from across Australia, hosted by Galderma.
The day was spent deep in conversations about facial anatomy, the structural layers that drive the changes we see in skin as it ages, and where aesthetic medicine is heading. One of the areas that stood out most was around a layer within the skin called DWAT — Dermal White Adipose Tissue — and the significant role it plays in collagen regulation, hydration, barrier function and hormonal response. It’s an area where the science is developing quickly and one I’ll be exploring more in future posts.
These kinds of events matter because they feed directly into how I think about my practice and the care I provide. Staying at the leading edge of the field isn’t optional when the people sitting across from you are trusting you with decisions about their health.
Grateful to have been in that room.

Staying at the leading edge of aesthetic medicine isn’t something that happens passively.
It means saying yes to the rooms that challenge your thinking. Sitting with practitioners from across the country who are asking the same hard questions about where this field is heading, what genuinely evidence-based practice looks like, and how patient care standards need to evolve.
The conversations I had this weekend will feed into how I think about my practice for a long time. That’s exactly why I prioritise this kind of education — because the people who sit across from me in consultation deserve a practitioner who keeps growing.

Your skin rarely changes overnight. The signs show up gradually — and most people dismiss them. Here's what's worth paying attention to.
1. Persistent dullness, even when you're doing everything right. The cell renewal cycle is slowing down. Older, duller cells are sitting on the surface for longer. Often linked to sleep quality or hydration — not just your products.
2. Skin that feels dehydrated no matter how much moisturiser you use. This is a barrier problem, not a product problem. Moisture is escaping faster than it's being replaced. Adding more on top doesn't fix the underlying issue.
3. Sensitivity that's getting worse, not better. Products that used to be fine now irritate. This is one of the most commonly missed signals. Progressive sensitivity isn't normal — it means something has changed.
4. Breakouts in the same spot, repeatedly. Recurring breakouts — especially along the jawline or chin — often have a hormonal component that topical products alone won't resolve.
5. Skin that looks tired regardless of how much sleep you're getting. This is often structural — volume and collagen changes beneath the surface, not just a surface concern. Worth a proper assessment.
6. Slow healing — cuts, breakouts or redness that take longer to clear than they used to. Healing speed is one of the clearest indicators of how well skin is functioning underneath. Often tied to stress, nutrition, or a compromised barrier.
If any of these sound familiar, a consultation is a good place to start. Book via the link in bio or call 0478 536 126.

The most overcomplicated skin routines I see in clinic aren't from people who don't care about their skin. They're from people who care a lot.
They've read everything. They've bought the products. They're layering actives and rotating acids and doing all the things the algorithm told them to do.
And their skin is getting worse.
More isn't always more. Sometimes the kindest thing you can do for your skin is to stop, strip it back, and let it breathe.
If your routine has grown to eight or more steps and your skin still isn't happy — the routine might be the problem.
Drop a 🙋 in the comments if this sounds familiar. And if you'd like to work out what your skin actually needs vs what the internet says it needs, a consultation is a good place to start.
Something shifted in how I think about skin over the years.
Early on, the focus was on what was visible and reducing it. That still has its place. But the question I find myself asking now is different — what does this person's skin actually need to keep functioning well?
Most aesthetic treatments that target collagen focus on types I and III. Regenerative medicine goes further, looking at types IV, V, VII and XVII, which play an equally important role in overall skin quality. It's a part of the conversation that doesn't get nearly enough attention.
It's why I'm increasingly specialising in regenerative aesthetics. The impact it can have on skin health — not just how it looks today but how it functions long term is what drives that focus.

I had a patient recently who'd been consistent with her skincare for over a year. Good products, proper routine, sun protection. But her skin wasn't responding the way either of us expected.
The first question I asked wasn't about her products. It was about her sleep.
Turns out she'd been waking at 3am most nights for months - work stress, young kids, the usual. That one factor was quietly undoing a lot of the work she was putting in. We adjusted the plan. The difference was noticeable within weeks.
Skincare works best when the biology underneath it is functioning. Sleep is one of the biggest levers most people aren't pulling.
Drop a 💤 in the comments if your sleep has been less than great lately — you're not alone.

Eight years ago, I began my journey in aesthetics and had the privilege of being trained in injectables by Jane Shanahan. Today, I had the honour of training her in a bioregenerative treatment — a truly humbling full-circle moment.
Experiences like this are a reminder of the importance of acknowledging and respecting those who have helped shape our industry and inspire the next generation of practitioners. Grateful for the opportunity, the mentorship, and the continued evolution of our field.
Your skin is not passive. It's constantly working — repairing, renewing, rebuilding.
Regenerative medicine starts from that point. Instead of correcting what's changed on the surface, it asks how we create the right conditions for your skin to do what it's already designed to do.
It's a different way of thinking about skin health. And it's one I find genuinely compelling.

The part of my work I find most exciting right now isn't a technique or a product.
It's a question.
What if we stopped focusing purely on what's changed — and started focusing on why it's changing, and how we support the skin to do what it's already designed to do?
That shift in thinking is what's driving the most interesting developments in skin medicine at the moment. And it's the lens I'm increasingly bringing to how I assess, plan, and care for my patients.
If you're curious what that could look like for your skin specifically, come in for a conversation.
