Behind the Scenes // STAPLES, LED sculpture, 2023 . .
Bringing STAPLES to life on the Croatian seaside was quite challenging. Battling strong winds, saltwater splashes, and uneven terrain, our team had to balance safety, stability, and vision. Each arch was designed to tilt across multiple axes - like huge staples driven into the earth unsuccessfully.
To make this possible, the Croatian crew led by devised ingenious custom engineering: from stabilizing the skewed arches to constructing a unique sub-structure that allowed LED panels to be mounted seamlessly onto the trussing.

Definitely, some nerves snapped, a few tools flew, and more than one coffee was spilled but somehow the seaside got stapled into submission :)

Huge thanks ♥️ to everyone who made this installation possible:

Our approach of covering LED panels with semi-translucent materials started in 2019. We call this method “Stealth LED” - a play on secrecy, where the hidden only becomes visible when darkness arrives. It allows our sculptures to shift identities: during the day they appear as solid objects, and at night they transform as light pierces through the surface.

For STAPLES, the third large-scale work in the Stealth LED series, each arch was wrapped in a special foil adding permanent texture to the underlying visuals.

STAPLES, stealth LED sculpture, 2023
In 2023 we placed four oversized LED arches on the Croatian seaside, looking like giant staples driven into the ground. Each one was slightly rotated and offset, as if someone had tried to staple the same spot but missed each time, stacking new ones over the old. Wrapped in reflective foil, the LEDs stayed hidden during the day. At night, they pierced through the surface, turning the sculpture into a glowing stage for our live visuals at
