repaired with isn’t it a funky, stylish piece? I live the shape of it, and the 🍌 colour brightens my mood each time I look at it.
The traditional craft is a journey that starts rather muddy. It’s a transformative process. You would not expect a golden and shiny outcome, when you start glueing the pieces together. Doing is rather a dirty business and aesthetically unpleasant. But hey, where does the lotus grow? Exactly, in the mud … #🪷

*tsugi with by the use of coloured urushi, such as bengara (ironoxide), as a finishing for broken ceramics, is many thousand years older than kintsugi; findings are dating back 6000-7000 years, developing around the yayoi period. the sprinkling of metallic powder as used in kintsugi derived from the makie technique which developed around late 700 BC (Heian period) nowadays there are many foodsafe pigmented options available, many colours are possible :)

a quite damaged repared with traditional and foodsafe by the repair took about 6 months and included the infiltration of a (hibi) ひび

with black *tsugi severely damaged and glued with a god knows what magic glue from the 60ies, had to grill it in the oven to make it unglue, it had such a great bond 😝 now its all again and ready to serve!
