INK ARCHIVE 01 - JAPANESE TATTOO
Japanese tattooing has always existed between visibility and secrecy, punishment and self-expression, tradition and rebellion.
During the Edo period, large pictorial tattoos began to develop into the style now known as horimono. Their visual language was deeply influenced by ukiyo-e woodblock prints: dramatic compositions filled with dragons, waves, flowers, mythical creatures and legendary heroes.
The prints of Utagawa Kuniyoshi were especially influential. His tattooed warriors from the Suikoden series helped transform the body into a living narrative, with one image flowing across the back, shoulders and arms.

“No tattoos in summer” - myth or fact?
Truth is, there’s no perfect season for a tattoo, every season just has different things to watch out for:
𖤓˚࿔ Summer
• totally fine if your skin isn’t sunburnt
• avoid swimming and soaking the tattoo for ~2 weeks after
• keep it fully covered/out of direct sun while healing (UV can fade and irritate fresh skin)
⋆❆˚ Winter
• cold air + indoor heating dries out your skin fast
• dry, dehydrated skin is harder to tattoo and heals less predictably
• often means more touch-ups needed afterward
Moisturizing matters no matter the season.
Well-hydrated skin takes ink better and heals faster.
if you’re not outdoors, swimming, or sunbathing every weekend, a summer tattoo is genuinely not a problem. Office job with 1-2 vacations a year? We just plan your session around those dates.
