Seventy Years of Progress Founded in 1956 to supply Austria with energy, OMV has spent 70 years re-inventing the company to meet the demands of each new era. Now, as we enters our eighth decade, we are focused on powering the energy transition. When Österreichische Mineralölverwaltung Aktiengesellschaft – now known as OM...
🌍 What if the heat beneath our feet could help power the future?
Together with Energie Steiermark, we're exploring the geothermal ♨️ potential of Styria through the Tiefenkraft project. Following a successful seismic survey, the project is moving forward with the next important step: a planned exploration well near Graz 🇦🇹.
If successful, Tiefenkraft could provide enough geothermal energy to cover around 50% of district heating demand in the Graz region by 2037.
🎥 Watch the video to discover how geothermal energy could support Austria's heat transition.
Seven decades of progress. One enduring commitment.
We honor the people and achievements that built OMV and look with confidence toward what comes next. Guided by our Strategy 2030, we are ready to lead, deliver essential solutions, and innovate for the future.
🎁 Wait for it… 👀
A giant birthday present just appeared in front of our headquarters.

OMV and Energie Steiermark Join Forces in Deep Geothermal Energy ♨️
OMV and Energie Steiermark are partnering to advance deep geothermal energy in Styria and actively drive forward the heat transition💪. At a joint event, the two companies presented “Tiefenkraft”, a joint project by OMV and Energie Steiermark, an initiative to assess the region’s geothermal potential. In the long term, this could deliver up to 670 GWh of geothermal energy annually by 2037, equivalent to around 50% of the district heating supply in the greater Graz area.

70 years of moving forward – together.
In our anniversary year, we’re opening the stage to the next generation: 3 x 70 students have been invited to experience the “Wild & Schön” theatre festival at NEST Die Neue Staatsoper, the youth stage of the Wiener Staatsoper.
Across the festival, students from Lower Austria and Vienna’s 10th district (invited via CAPE 10) discovered different performances, each one offering its own moment of connection to culture.
At the heart of it all: young music theatre and dance ensembles from across Austria, bringing their own stories, perspectives and energy to the stage.
As “Future partner” (Zukunftspartner) of the Vienna State Opera, we’re committed to make these moments possible. We aim to open doors to culture, foster creativity and expression, and create spaces where young people can learn and grow together.

Vienna’s heating reality is changing – and fast🌍.
Today, most buildings still rely on gas – but the city is working towards a climate-neutral future.
Part of the solution is right beneath our feet: geothermal energy.
Together with Wien Energie, OMV is building Vienna’s first deep geothermal plant in Aspern – providing clean, local heat for around 25,000 households.
It’s a big step toward a more sustainable, resilient energy system for the city.

Opening doors to the world of industry.
At the “Kindertag der Industrie” (Industry Day for Children), we welcomed around 25 curious students at our Junior-Lab to explore different parts of the world.
Across three hands-on stations - geothermal energy, chemistry & innovation, and safety - they got a first glimpse of how ideas become real-world applications and what working in industry can look like.
Now in its 13th year, KIDI introduces young people to science, technology, and engineering topics, helping them discover new interests and perspectives early on.
Because understanding tomorrow’s industries starts with curiosity today.
