After my recent strange experiences with some rather questionable “promoters” 😉, I decided to share a few thoughts of my own 😉. 😎🎧😎

Dear DJ, We Have a Huge Opportunity for You… Just Pay First.

A few years ago, DJs had to fight for an audience.

Today, many of them spend more time fighting off “promotional agencies” that appear in their inboxes faster than new followers on Instagram.

The script is almost always the same.

“Hey! We love your profile. We see huge potential in your music. We’d love to help you reach thousands of new fans!”

For a brief moment, you start imagining yourself as the next big name in electronic music.

Then comes the catch.

This incredible opportunity will cost you £50, £100, £300, or sometimes even £1,000.

Suddenly, you’re expected to pay for playlist placements, track promotion, interviews, social media exposure, awards, or even the chance to have your own track featured in a project that THEY contacted YOU about.

Think about that for a second.

They approached you.

They claim to believe in your talent.

Yet somehow, you’re the one expected to pay.

It’s a bit like a restaurant calling a customer and saying:

“We’d really love for you to dine with us. Just send us £200 first, and we’ll see what happens.”

The most concerning part is that many of these businesses sell dreams rather than results.

Streams.

Followers.

Exposure.

Industry connections.

Success.

The promises are often huge, while the evidence is surprisingly small.

Of course, not every promotional agency is a scam. There are legitimate marketing companies that provide real services and genuine value.

The difference is simple:

A professional agency sells marketing.
A scam sells hope.

No serious company can guarantee fame, viral success, or a loyal fanbase overnight.

Real growth takes time.

Real growth comes from improving your craft.

From creating better music.

From building a genuine community.

From staying consistent when nobody is watching.

And honestly, sometimes the best thing you can do is simply create your own music, enjoy the process, and have fun with it. 🎶

Not everything needs to be about numbers, streams, followers, algorithms, or becoming the next superstar.

Passion came first.

The music came first.

Everything else is a bonus.

Because real fans follow the music.

Bots follow the budget.

And most messages that begin with:

“Hello Dear DJ…”

usually deserve just one response:
