🚨 SHOULD REGISTERING PUBLIC DEFIBRILLATORS BECOME MANDATORY? ❤️

This week, the issue of defibrillator registration has been raised in Parliament, with the Government asked whether newly installed public-access defibrillators should be required to be registered on The Circuit.

And this matters. A lot.

❤️ The Circuit is the national defibrillator network connecting defibrillators with ambulance services across the UK.

When somebody suffers a cardiac arrest and 999 is called, the ambulance service can use this system to identify registered defibrillators nearby and, where appropriate, direct someone to retrieve one.

At Defibrillators Save Lives, this is already standard practice for us.

✅ Every outdoor public-access defibrillator that we look after is registered on The Circuit.

Because simply putting a defibrillator on a wall isn't enough.

It needs to be:
📍 Registered
🔋 Maintained
❤️ Ready for use
📅 Regularly checked
🚑 Visible to the ambulance service when somebody needs it

🔎 WANT TO CHECK THE DEFIBRILLATORS NEAR YOU?

The Circuit has a public-facing service called Defib Finder, which allows you to search for known public-access defibrillators in your area.

👉 Visit www.defibfinder.uk and enter your location.

Have a look around your local area. You might be surprised where your nearest defibrillator is!

⚠️ And here's something important…

If you know there is a public-access defibrillator near you but it isn't appearing on Defib Finder, speak to the person, business or organisation responsible for it and ask:

👉 “Is this defibrillator registered on The Circuit?”

There are now more than 110,000 defibrillators registered on The Circuit across the UK, but there may still be devices sitting in workplaces, sports clubs, community buildings and businesses that aren't registered.

Installing the defibrillator is only part of the job.

Register it. Check it. Maintain it. Keep it ready.

Because when somebody suffers a cardiac arrest, every minute matters.

🚨💙 EMERGENCY SERVICES DAY – 9/9 💙🚨

Today, on Emergency Services Day, we want to say a massive THANK YOU to the incredible people who are there when we need them most.

Police. Fire. Ambulance. Search & Rescue. Coastguard. And all those working behind the scenes to keep our communities safe. 🚑🚒🚓

At Defibrillators Save Lives, this one means a little bit more to us.

A number of our amazing Heart Heroes are themselves Emergency Service workers — people who spend their working lives helping others, yet still give up their own time to support our charity and help us keep lifesaving defibrillators available across our communities. ❤️

They help us install them.
They check them.
They help return them to service after an activation.
And, most importantly, they understand exactly why having a defibrillator available when every second counts matters so much.

To our own Heart Heroes working within the Emergency Services, and to Emergency Service workers everywhere:

Thank you for what you do. Every shift. Every call. Every day. 💙

From everyone at Defibrillators Save Lives ❤️

❤️ ❤️ Sometimes something frightening can become the catalyst for something incredibly positive. ❤️❤️

Following a cardiac arrest at Horton Arms Chadderton in Chadderton, the decision was made…

The pub needed a defibrillator. But Alistair didn't stop there.

Rather than keeping the defibrillator solely for use inside the pub, he wanted it to be available to the wider Chadderton community too. (I love Chadderton)

So the fundraising began!

Thanks to Alistair and some fantastic fundraising efforts, this week the outdoor cabinet was installed and the lifesaving equipment was placed inside, registered, ready and available to the community when it matters most.

The defibrillator has now been registered on The Circuit, the national defibrillator network managed by the British Heart Foundation, making it visible to North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust for deployment during a suspected cardiac arrest nearby.

And that's where Defibrillators Save Lives comes in.

❤️ We will now act as guardians of the defibrillator ❤️

Every month, one of our Heart Hero volunteers will visit the pub, complete and log the required checks and help ensure the equipment remains ready and available for an emergency.

Our Co-founder and Heart Hero Pat has taken the task of completing the checks each month.

Alistair — be proud of what you've achieved.

You could have simply put a defibrillator inside your own premises. Instead, you thought bigger.

You thought about the people living nearby, people passing through Chadderton, neighbouring businesses, families and the wider community.

One day, somebody may need that defibrillator. And because of what you've done, it'll be there.

👏 Well done Alistair and everyone at The Horton Arms. 👏

Another community defibrillator installed.
Another area in Oldham better protected.
Another brilliant example of people looking after people.

❤️ £1,000 donated. Two locations. More lifesaving equipment for Shaw. ❤️

Back in January 2026, local Councillor Lisa Navesey donated an incredible £1,000 from her Ward Budget to Defibrillators Save Lives.

Lisa had a clear goal, she wanted that funding to help provide more lifesaving equipment for the residents and visitors of Shaw.

DSL held the funds in trust, ready to procure, install and help look after two new community defibrillators.

Fast-forward a few months… and that is exactly what has happened!

With Lisa’s funding providing the foundations, and further fundraising and support from our amazing local community, the remaining money was raised, the equipment was ordered and both projects became a reality.

❤️ The Morning Star Shaw - £500 of Lisa’s funding
❤️ Farmers Choice Quality Butchers - £500 of Lisa’s funding

Both locations now have their defibrillator AND emergency bleed kit installed and registered, ready to help in an emergency.

Both defibrillators are registered on The Circuit, the national defibrillator network managed by the British Heart Foundation. This means North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust can identify and direct someone to this lifesaving equipment when a suspected cardiac arrest occurs nearby.

That £1,000 hasn't just bought equipment.

It has helped create two more points of emergency support within our community, available when somebody could be having the worst day of their life.

A HUGE thank you to Councillor Lisa Navesey for having the drive to make this happen, and to every single person, business and supporter who helped raise the additional funds needed to get both projects over the line.

This is what happens when councillors, local businesses, charities and residents all pull in the same direction.

More equipment. More coverage. More lives protected. What a community we have here in Shaw and beyond!

💛 THIS is what community spirit looks like! 💛

A few years ago, the defibrillator at The Puckersley Inn Royton was kindly gifted to Defibrillators Save Lives.

It was already an older unit when it came to us, but it continued standing ready 24/7, looking after the local community.

Unfortunately, this year it reached the point where it was simply too old to source replacement parts, meaning it was finally time for retirement.

Then someone stepped up.

🚑 A HUGE thank you to Tim and the team at EMFRS 🚑

If you've been to Oldham Athletic, there's a good chance you've seen the EMFRS team without even realising it!

They provide crowd medical cover at Oldham Athletic, which is just one of the many things they do here in I love Oldham, alongside providing professional medical and first aid cover at events and supporting communities across the area.

And now they've helped protect another part of our community too.

Tim has very kindly donated a replacement defibrillator to DSL for The Puckersley.

And we're delighted to say...

❤️ It's now in place.
⚡ It's LIVE with North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust
🏘️ And it's once again ready to protect the community around The Puckersley.

This is what Defibrillators Save Lives is all about.

People helping people.
Local organisations supporting local communities.
And lifesaving equipment being there when somebody needs it most.

Massive thank you to Tim and everyone at EMFRS.

A brilliant example of Oldham looking after Oldham.

❤️⚡ IT’S ON! ANOTHER DEFIBRILLATOR IS LIVE! ⚡❤️

This morning, the Defibrillators Save Lives installation team, Heart Hero Leigh, Scott and Charlie, completed the installation and registration of another publicly accessible defibrillator & emergency bleed kit!

But this one really has been a community effort.

❤️ A huge thank you to Lee and the team at The Farmers Choice Butchers on Beal Lane, who rallied the community fundraising and helped make this installation possible.

🤝 Jon from Shaw Cricket Club played a massive part too, making the introductions and bringing the right people together to get the project moving.

👏 And an enormous thank you to Councillor Lisa Navesey, who contributed an incredible £500 from her councillor budget towards making this happen.

💙 Then this morning, Leigh, Scott and Charlie headed out to get everything installed, tested and ready for use, including the first official outing for The Leigh Mounting Template, made by the fantastic B*H Ltd.

The defibrillator has now been registered through the British Heart Foundation's The Circuit, making its location available to North West Ambulance Service for emergency activation when somebody nearby suffers a cardiac arrest.

🩸 The emergency bleed kit is also now in place, registered & providing another potentially lifesaving resource for the community.

This is exactly what Defibrillators Save Lives is all about.

Local residents. Local businesses. Local organisations. Local councillors. Local volunteer Heart Hero's.

Everyone pulling in the same direction to put lifesaving equipment where it's needed.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated, supported, introduced people, gave their time or helped make this happen.

When a community comes together like this, brilliant things happen.

Another defibrillator live. Another community better protected.

It's back-to-school season! 📚

Children will be heading back to classrooms to learn all sorts of important skills and knowledge. But what about CPR?

Although CPR training is part of the curriculum for UK secondary schools, not every young person receives the same opportunities to learn these lifesaving skills.

That's why we're campaigning to help ensure more students leave school feeling confident to act in an emergency.

💚 All packed up and ready for tomorrow! 💚

That’s the kit checked, packed and ready to go from our unit at GB Storage Ltd, literally the only place you need to consider for safe, secure and dry storage of any size!

⏰ It’s an early start tomorrow...⏰️

At 7.45am, our installation team, Heart Hero Leigh, Scott & Charlie, will be heading out to install another publicly accessible defibrillator cabinet.

And tomorrow is a bit of a first for us...

🪛🔩🔧 The Leigh Mounting Template !🔧🔩🪛

Invented by our very own Heart Hero Leigh and brought to life by the fantastic team at B*H Limited in Rochdale, this custom-made template jig should make our installations quicker, easier and most importantly for us, perfectly level! Massive thanks to the team that made it happen!

Once tomorrow’s cabinet is installed the defibrillator is ready, it will be registered through the British Heart Foundation system, The Circuit, making it visible to North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, so it can be activated when someone nearby suffers a cardiac arrest.

❤️ Another defibrillator.
📍 Another community covered.
⚡ Another potential life saved.

❓️❔️❓️ But where are we heading tomorrow? ❓️❔️❓️

Keep an eye on the page tomorrow to find out!
