What an amazing day at the Oceania CDN STEAM Fest 2026! 🔬🌱

The American Samoa Department of Health - Communicable Diseases Division was honored to participate in this exciting event and connect with students, families, and community members from across our islands.

Throughout the day, we shared information about communicable diseases, the services our program provides, and the importance of prevention, early detection, and overall health and wellness. Community members learned about our free screening, counseling, treatment, and educational services available in our program.

We truly enjoyed meeting everyone who stopped by our booth—whether to learn more about our work, ask questions, or simply stop by to say hello. Your interest and support help us continue our mission of promoting awareness and protecting the health of our community.

A special fa'afetai tele lava to Ocean Community Development Network (Oceania CDN) for hosting such a fun, educational, and inspiring event. We look forward to participating again in the future!

April is both STI Awareness Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and we’re proud to have partnered with the American Samoa Alliance for a special episode of the Talanoa Talk Now podcast on Spotify.
In this conversation, we highlight the importance of STI awareness, education, and testing, while also addressing the stigma that continues to surround sexual health discussions. Open and honest conversations like these are essential in breaking barriers and encouraging our community to seek the care and support they need.
We are truly grateful to the American Samoa Alliance against Domestic and Sexual Violence for the opportunity to collaborate and for the incredible work they continue to do in our community. Partnerships like this remind us that when we work together, we can make a greater impact.
Our hope is that this episode inspires more open conversations, helps reduce stigma around STIs, and empowers individuals to prioritize their health.

April is recognized as STI Awareness Month — a time dedicated to increasing education, encouraging prevention, and promoting open conversations about sexual health. With more than one million new sexually transmitted infections reported daily worldwide, raising awareness and improving access to testing and care remains more important than ever.
Earlier today, our Communicable Disease Program had the opportunity to collaborate with the ASCC Student Government Association to provide an HIV and STI educational outreach at our local community college. Students participated in an informative presentation covering:
• What is HIV
• Signs and symptoms
• Prevention methods
• STI facts and transmission
• Ways to reduce and prevent STI transmission
These conversations are essential in helping young people feel informed, empowered, and comfortable seeking the care and support they may need. Following the presentation, students were also offered free HIV screening services.
We extend our sincere appreciation to SGA Coordinator and Advisor Ms. Falaleiato Suiaunoa for partnering with us during this outreach. Thank you to ASCC for welcoming us onto your campus to educate and engage with students. We also thank the students, clubs, and organizations who attended, participated, and asked thoughtful questions throughout the session.
We look forward to continuing future collaborations that support the health and wellbeing of our community.
