Is that a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker? That’s a flamingo. You might want to clean off those binoculars…

Let’s try this again. Whether you're casually taking note of your surroundings or traveling the nation (oh the places you’ll go!) in search of birds to add to your checklist, people of all ages can enjoy birding. Fun fact: when you start to take note of the birds around you, you might find yourself more perceptive of other things. For example, you might notice sounds you previously overlooked. Did you hear that cracking noise? That’s your knee from just standing there.

Umm, it could be a bird too. Moving on. You might start to notice small details around you, like different kinds of trees, insects, fruits, or that existential feeling of being watched by a bird. You might even notice things about yourself, like your inexplicable love for cheesy puns or your impressive ability to trip over flat surfaces.

In conclusion, birding can be a gateway hobby, leading you to much more serious hobbies…or maybe you’ll just recognize and appreciate a wider world that was there all along. Is that Tufted Titmouse watching me?

Wanna learn more about yourself? Cool. But this post is about birding. Learn more at: https://www.nps.gov/articles/birding-for-beginners.htm

Today, teams were again deployed on the ongoing search for Erik Matthijsen, who was last seen on May 13th in the Well’s Bay area.

With the guidance of local hikers of Saba Conservation Foundation, ground teams continued checking trails and possible venture points that Mr. Matthijsen could have taken. This included the assistance of USAR.NL, with specially trained dogs. A drone search was also conducted.

Tomorrow, these ground searches will continue on the trails.

Additionally, the Bottom Mountain trail has been re-opened, and can be used by all.
