In a press release conducted by the Sense About Science organisation in 2006, many health professionals were brought together to discuss the new detox therapy phenomenon. This helps combat some of the myths established by the advocates of detoxification as a scientific light is shone upon them. The main points raised in this conference stressed that detox products are a waste of money and no scientific evidence is available to support the claims behind these products. Moreover, it was agreed that detox diets are not needed as the body’s detoxification system is sufficient enough for eliminating any harmful substances from the body. What to expect if your on the Master Cleanse: irritablilty, headaches, dizziness, nausea, cravings, fatigue, weakness (you basically have no energy because of the extremely low caloric intake) and most your eliminations to be liquid.

The Master Cleanse: for a minimum of 10 days the person is only allowed to have a special lemonade (recipe: 2 tablespoons of Grade A maple syrup, 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice, 1/10 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, and 250 ml of pure water); as well as a laxative tea each evening and a 'salt-water flush' each morning.
