اے دوست بتا تو کیسا ہے
کیا اب بھی محلّہ ویسا ہے ؟
وہ لوگ پرانےکیسے ہیں ؟
کیا اب بھی وہاں سب رہتے ہیں ؟

جن کو میں تب چھوڑ گیا
دوکان تھی جوایک چھوٹی سی
کیا بوڑھا چاچا ہوتا ہے ؟
کیا چیزیں اب بھی ہیں ملتی
بسکٹ ، پاپڑ اور گولی
اور گولی کھٹی میٹھی سی ؟

بیری والے گھر میں اب بھی
کیا بچّے پتھر مارتے ہیں ؟
اوربوڑھی امّاں کیا اس پر
اب بھی شور مچاتی ہے ؟

بجلی جانے پر اب بھی
کیا خوشی منائی جاتی ہے
پھر چھپن چھپائی ہوتی ہے ؟
کیا پاس کسی کے ہونے پر
مٹھائی بھی بانٹی جاتی ہے ؟
بارش کے پہلے قطرے پر
کیا ہلّہ گلّہ ہوتا ہے ؟

اور غم میں کسی کے اب بھی
کیا پورا محلّہ روتا ہے ؟
گلی کے کونے میں بیٹھے
کیا دنیا کی سیاست ہوتی ہے ؟
گڈے گڑیوں کی کیااب بھی
بچوں میں شادی ہوتی ہے ؟

اے دوست بتا سب کیسا ہے
کیا محلّہ اب بھی ویسا ہے ؟
کیا اب بھی شام کو سب سکھیاں
دن بھر کی کہانی کہتی ہیں ؟

پرلی چھت سے چھپ چھپ کر
کیا اب بھی انہیں کوئی دیکھتا ہے ؟
کیا اب بھی چھپ چھپ کر ان میں
کوئی خط و کتابت ہوتی ہے ؟
وہ عید پہ بکروں بیلو ں کا
کیا گھر گھرمیلہ سجتا ہے ؟

خاموش ہےتو کیوں دوست میرے
کیوں سر جھکا کر روتا ہے ؟

ہلکے ہلکے لفظ دبا کر کہتا ہے
سب لوگ پرانے چلے گئے
سب بوڑھے چاچا ، ماما ، خالو
خالہ ، چاچی ، امّاں
سب ملک عدم کو لوٹ گئے

گھر بکے اور تقسیم ہوئے
اپنےحصّے لے کر سب
اپنے مکاں بنا بیٹھے
انجانوں کی بستی ہے وہ

*اب لوٹ کے تو کیا جائے گا*
*دل تیرا بھی بھر آئے گا*

تاجدارِ ختمِ نبوت زندہ باد
