This study really gets to the heart of the matter. They compared a calorie restricted conventional diet for diabetes vs vegetarian diet. Vegetarian lost more weight and had better glycemic control BUT what is most interesting is they looked at intramyocellular fat. That is, fat inside the muscle cell. This is crucial because, as I argue in my book, it is the fat in the muscle cell that begins the whole insulin resistance that leads to diabetes.

Vegetarian diets work fantastically for diabetes, and most diseases of western culture.
