Miss Sarah, one of our occupational therapists, received her DIRFloortime Basic Certification (DIR-Basic) last week after 14 weeks of coursework. Miss Sarah is now certified in the DIR Floortime approach which focuses on development, individual-differences and relationship-based approaches to working with children with Autism and other development delays. This approach has been shown to be effective in improving the core challenges of autism including relating, interacting and communicating while decreasing caregiver stress and improving parent-child relationships. Miss Sarah is very excited to implement these strategies into her daily treatment sessions! Shout out to this sweet patient who was Miss Sarah’s case study for her certification.
Working on the “Sh” sound in speech therapy this week! Or maybe just making silly duck faces “Quack, quack”. 🐥
Each week our therapists introduce a new tactile exploration activity to our kiddos. This week was a crowd favorite, water beads! This guy loved exploring this new texture!

Getting back into the school routine can be hard after winter break and snow. Check out these tips to assist with morning routines!
Giant crash pads are another piece of equipment we utilize during therapy sessions. This week patients had to jump from the trampoline onto the crash pad and crawl across them to get to a tunnel. This sequence provides children with proprioceptive input, an understanding of where their body is in space. It also works on weight bearing through the arms to increase upper extremity strength! As you can see, our patients love this activity!
This swing provides proprioceptive input as well as vestibular input. Some kiddos find these types of input calming and organizing which makes it a perfect way to start off therapy sessions! #pediatrictherapy #zionkids
