Tina you are wonderful and very generous! Thank you thank you for supporting my son,Alec, and The Myhre Syndrome Clinic at Mass General Hospital fundraiser on September 30, 2017 at the Wareham Elks Club from 3-7. Myhre syndrome is an extremely rare inherited, autosomal dominant condition (meaning you only need one copy of the faulty gene to have the disease). Myhre syndrome affects many functions of the body. This is because the gene that is mutated, called SMAD4, is part of an important cell signalling pathway, which allows cells in the body to communicate to each other. When the communication (signalling) is abnormal, as is the case with the faulty SMAD4 gene in Mhyre syndrome, it can (and does) affect the development of many body systems. KEY FEATURES OF MYHRE SYNDROME INCLUDE: 1. Intellectual disability 2. Dysmorphic facial features 3. Congenital heart disease 4. Skeletal anomalies, including; short stature, square body shape, broad ribs, iliac hypoplasia, brachydactyly, flattern vertebrae and thickened calvaria 5. Hearing loss, both sensorineural and conductive 6. Facial features, including; cleft palate, protruding jaw, small mouth with thin upper lip, short distance between nose and lips and narrowing opening of the eyelids. 7. Laryngotracheal stenosis (construction of the throat) 8. Skin and joint stiffness causing limited mobility 9. Branch pulmonary stenosis (congenital heart disease) 10. Skeletal abnormalities including; Hemi-vertebrae, Butterfly Vertebrae, brachydactyly, mild clinodactyly, hypertelorism, short philturm, prognathisn and mild scoliosis 11. Left facial paralysis 12. Submucus cleft palate 13. Delayed speech development 14. Generalized muscle pseudohypertrophy 15. Decreased joint mobility 16. Short stature 17. Hearing loss both sensorineural and conductive 18. Sacral dimple 19. Astigmatism 20. Thickened skin 21. Slight/moderate intellectual delay 22. Recurrent upper and lower respiratory tract infection 23. Autism or Autistic like behavior. 24. Now linking possibly cancer.
