During the Monday, July 27 Board of Trustees special meeting, the Board discussed the 2020-21 school year and approved starting school on Thursday, Aug. 20 with all students attending class virtually. This Board decision was based on the recommendation from the 86-member Re-EntryTask Force that started meeting in May. Originally, MISD was to start school on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
During the week of Sept. 8-11 students choosing face-to-face instruction will return to their campus in small groups giving parents and students the opportunity to learn the new safety protocols. On Monday, Sept. 14, all students selecting face-to-face instruction will return to school. These changes in the school start date does not change for MISD staff members as they will return as originally scheduled to prepare for the coming school year.
Additionally, the Board approved the district’s safety protocols for elementary, middle and high schools. With this Board decision, principals will finalize campus back-to-school academic and operational plans and send that information to parents during the week of Aug. 3, 2020. The principals will detail all of the safety protocols. These protocols were developed using the latest information from the Centers for Disease Control, Texas Education Agency and the Ellis County health officials.

Red Oak ISD update; delayed start....
With the latest changes in State guidelines and current COVID concerns/increases, and after staff and parent feedback with overwhelming support, Red Oak ISD is postponing the student's first day of school to Thursday, August 20, which pushes the start back a week.
Staff will still return on their assigned date.
This will allow for a change in health concerns and allow the district to best prepare for the Education Migration of both in-person and virtual instruction of your children. In addition to the state allotment of personal protective equipment (PPE) – masks, gloves, shields, hand sanitizer, etc. – the district has ordered more cleaning supplies, protective shields for front offices and cafeterias, and technology devices for virtual learning. Staff will also have additional time to prepare for the first day of school and new roles and responsibilities.
This change is also possible since the State guidelines, which previously mandated two-week shutdowns for any COVID case, now state the district would only have to close that class or wing, or possibly the school for a day depending on the number of positive cases.

Dear Waxahachie ISD Families,
Thank you for your patience as we continue making plans for the 2020-21 school year. Waxahachie ISD is still in the process of finalizing details for the 2020-21 school year, and this situation remains fluid as we continue to receive details from the Texas Education Agency. Waxahachie ISD families will be able to choose in-person or online learning options for their children in the 2020-21 school year.
The in-person instruction option will provide a traditional classroom setting for students. Instruction will take place five days a week during normal school hours at all WISD campuses.
Campuses will closely follow health protocols including:
• All students and staff will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms as appropriate.
• Social distancing practices will be followed as much as instructionally possible.
• Hand sanitizer stations will be placed in every classroom and in high traffic areas. Each teacher’s classroom will be stocked with products to clean and sanitize desks, chairs, door handles, etc., during the day.
• Enhanced cleaning and disinfecting protocols will be implemented.
• Masks and/or face shields will be worn according to orders from the governor or other officials. Under the current orders from Governor Abbott, Waxahachie ISD will require all students fourth grade and above to wear masks.
• The number of students in the cafeteria, on the playground, in the gymnasium, etc., at one time will be limited.
We are committed to ensuring that the online learning experience will be successful for those students who do not feel comfortable coming to school in person.
Online instruction will consist of daily lessons in each subject area provided by a Waxahachie ISD certified teacher. Students will need a device (iPad for students in Pre-K – 1st grade, Chromebook or laptop/desktop computer for students in 2nd-12th grade) and internet access to complete online learning. The district has a limited number of devices to loan students for online learning purposes. We strongly recommend that families purchase devices and ensure they have reliable internet access at home as soon as possible. Daily attendance will be measured according to minutes a student is engaged in online learning, so a stable internet connection is critical.
Students will participate in online daily instruction with follow-up assignments. Assignments will be submitted to the teacher through their online classroom environment. Grades for online instruction will follow district grading policies. The rigor of the online learning curriculum will be equal to that of the curriculum provided via in-person learning.
There may be situations in which courses selected by the student cannot be delivered in an online environment. In those situations, school counselors will work with the student to select an appropriate course that can be delivered online, or the student can choose to come to campus to participate in that class in person.
Choose Your Option
Families will commit to their preferred method of instruction for a minimum of one six-week grading period. If no change is preferred at the end of the grading period, no action is required by parents.
All students, whether choosing in-person or online instruction, must be registered during regular registration times. Information about registration is available on the district’s Back to School Toolkit. Families choosing the online instruction option must complete and submit an application, which will be available on July 30 in the Back to School Toolkit. We appreciate you completing that application as soon as possible after it becomes available.
The safety of students, families, and staff is Waxahachie ISD’s top priority. WISD remains in close contact with local and state health officials to ensure proper health protocols are in place at all times. Protocols are subject to change based on guidelines from local, state, and federal authorities. Please check our website regularly for additional and updated information.
