Women In Buses Council

Women in Buses Council is to recognize and advance the role of women in the motorcoach industry through networking, education and mentoring programs.

Mission: The Women in Buses Council was created in 2011 and is a program of the American Bus Association. Since that time, the leadership, structure and activities of the Council have been developing to meet the goals of the Council. Currently, the membership of the Council is open to all ABA members who actively support the mission of Women in Buses. The Council's leadership team consists of six (6) members including a Chairman, Membership Vice Chairman, Marketing & Communications Vice Chairman and three Committee Chairmen. The Council's structure consists of three (3) committees (Executive Management Committee, Operations & Maintenance Committee and Travel, Tour & Charter Committee) to meet the distinct needs and expectations of the diverse members of the Council. Committees decide on the educational and programmatic needs and any product/resource development. The Council meets regularly via conference calls and in-person at Marketplace annually. The Women in Buses Council provides a strong network of professionals in the motorcoach and group travel industry.

WIB Profile: Antoinette Gonzales, Aries Charter Transportation

Moving people since – Well, let’s just say more than a couple of decades (literally starting in the last century).

Started off with a limousine company back in the day. Lucky for me they were one
of the best in the city and also one of the first to offer mini-buses. Even better, for me, the owner felt that all “management” employees had to learn every position in the
company and how it makes the wheels roll... Yes - I washed a mini-bus (while wearing
a suit) and I still have a Chicago Chauffer’s license too. It was a wonderful opportunity
to learn every side of the industry. Providing me with a foundation in all facets of
“moving people” and the skills (from driving, customer service, tours, program management, dispatching and so much more that enabled me to not only grow with the
ground transportation industry but also offered me valuable insight and tools to connect
and empathize with all the people (washer, mechanic, dispatcher or driver and so many other…) that it takes to make the magic that we make as people movers!

Fast forward to 2017: I’m working with Aries Charter Transportation out of Chicago, to
continue their growth in the industry as their Director of Marketing and Sales. Changing
and adapting to all the new tools we have at our fingertips now to promote growth for
the company! Facebook, LinkedIn, shows and conferences, the whole wide web,
electronic logs... What an exciting and stressful time we live in!

Personal world – Hubby (whom I’m crazy about), hobby – Ballroom dancing, two furry
Siamese babies – different day different order!

Finally – I don’t know who you are Robin Chase. But, this quote that is attributed to you
says it all:
Transportation is the center of the world!
It is the glue of our daily lives.
When it goes well, we don’t see it.
When it goes wrong, it negatively colors
Our day, makes us feel angry and impotent,
curtails our possibilities.

Heather Dudick has been exploring the backcountry, paddling the waters, and skiing the mountains of Alaska for 20 years, 18 of which she’s spent working in Alaska’s tourism industry. As the Alaska Railroad’s Senior Passenger Sales Account Executive, Heather promotes Alaska as a year-round destination, educating and training travel trade partners worldwide on how the Alaska Railroad caters to both the leisure and adventure rail traveler markets. A major incentive for selecting passenger rail IS the onboard rail experience, and Heather looks forward to sharing the Alaska Railroad experience: two classes of passenger service, full service dining, onboard tour guides and friendly conductors. Heather admits that she has one of the coolest jobs – she gets to partner with amazing lodging and activity partners, from the cruise port towns of Seward and Whittier, north to Anchorage, Talkeetna, Denali, and up to Fairbanks. Heather loves sharing trade secrets; be sure to ask about her favorite day trips and the scoop on the best lodge decks to view the Alaska Range – and how the Alaska Railroad can get you there. Traveling on the Alaska Railroad Travel is perfect fit with a standalone land tour or to complement a Gulf of Alaska cruise for FIT and group travelers. Heather is excited to give you the inside track on earning greater commissions, and to share how to give your clients a unique Alaska adventure, one that’s only available with the iconic Alaska Railroad.

Certified Interpretive Guide
Sales Manager, Visit Anderson

I got started in the tourism industry as a Manager for a Museum in 2004 that covered 4 counties in SC. I was giving tours for the museum and the Town of Edgefield, SC asked me to conduct tours for the tour. I was out of the office just as much as I was in the Museum giving tours to groups and schools. By the end of 2006, I was asked to be the Group Tour Manager for 17 counties for the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor. The SCNHC is one of several National Heritage Areas in SC. I loved going to the "new" trade shows and learning about the tourism business and buses. I joined ABA, and several state groups and made lasting friendships with other DMO's and Bus Representatives. I have had the pleasure working for SC Parks Recreation and Tourism as their State Domestic Tour Manager and a SC CVB. I learned so much more when I had the honor of working for Capitol Tours in West Columbia, SC. While at Capitol, I learned about drivers days, hours, how to price a bus, how to create a tour itinerary for student groups, book hotels and plan 7-10 day bus trips all over the US. When my family moved to Greenville, SC in 2016 my time at Capitol came to an end but another door opened at the Anderson CVB. I love working for Visit Anderson. It is sunshine and rainbows every day working with my co-workers. What job can be more fun than tourism, when you are planning a vacation every day? Thank you for asking me to be apart of ABA Women in Buses.
