[06/27/20] If you find yourself without a job due to this pandemic, you have several ways to find health coverage until the job market improves. One is COBRA if your employer had 20 or more employees which will allow up to 18 months for identical coverage you had with your employer. The premiums are more expensive because your job is no longer paying. Two, see if your state accepted the expanded Medicaid and your new income status may make you eligible. Three, some states have association health plans that are benefit-lite but if your health is still good, may accept you for a reduced premium that can cover the basics. For more help or advice, call or email to [email protected].
[06/26/20] Health insurers are rolling out premium discounts for both group accounts and individual policyholders in view of the challenging economic conditions. If you think you may need some help with premiums to keep your health insurance intact, call your company and watch for any special mailings. In addition, many state health exchanges have opened up enrollment periods instead of waiting for fall Open Seasons. For more information, visit your state's Insurance Dept. website for links to the Marketplaces or Exchanges covering your state.
[05/07/20] Now is the time to get comfortable with health video calls with your doctor. As you know, most medical offices have limited in-person visits, but have expanded their capacity to see patients remotely. You will be assessed whether an office visit or more urgent care is needed. This kind of medical care is less expensive with lower co-pays, savings on time and transportation. After your first experience, you'll see how easy it can be.
Law allows penalty-free withdrawals for coronavirus expenses
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act allows workers to take a coronavirus-related distribution from a defined contribution retirement plan without incurring the 10% early distribution penalty. Employers may be forced by some plan record-keepers to quickly decide if they will offer this type of early withdrawal.

[05/03/16] May 11, 2016 I will attend the annual Carefirst Blue Cross Blue Shield meeting for brokers and agents. We get an overview from the company leaders since our last get-together in May 2015 for what is ahead for 2016-2017. It is an opportunity for insurance brokers working in the health insurance marketplace to hear about political developments and legislative initiatives that affect employer-provided health insurance as well as individual coverage. Of course, the two elephants in the room will be the coming Presidential election and the loss of more carriers shrinking the available pool of insurers and what that does to premiums for the future.

[01/27/14] Most health insurance companies that offer policies on the federal and state exchanges also have off-exchange polices that can be purchased direct or through a broker to satisfy the law's requirements. If you don't think you qualify for a subsidy, avoid the exchanges and the hassle.
This is a female-owned insurance business started in 2005 following a comprehensive career with one of the major, well-known insurance companies, Prudential. As a career building block, I held certain staff positions in the Washington DC federal bureaucracy that have provided me with a fundamental working knowledge of how politics and laws work together to form public and economic policy. It is a must to stay current on existing insurance laws and regulations so that I am prepared to recognize and advise my clients on appropriate actions to take to make the best decisions on their insurance programs. I am skilled in the area of health coverages, Medicare, life and disability among others.
