School Transportation and the Legalization of Marijuana - School Bus Contractors - School Bus Fleet

As the legalization of marijuana moves across the country, companies are left wondering what are the guidelines with drivers. According to ABA Consultant Ronna Weber, Employers have the right to maintain and enforce “zero-tolerance” drug policies. And regardless of state law, employees can still be fired for off-duty marijuana use and, depending on state law, could risk losing their commercial driver’s license (CDL) for life.

schoolbusfleet.com There is no gray area on testing, yet either willingly or unwillingly, drivers are still finding themselves on the wrong side of this issue, says Ronna Weber, a consultant working with the American Bus Association.

Happy #NationalDoughnutDay from ABA!

"Courage is almost a contradiction in terms. It means a strong desire to live taking the form of readiness to die." --G.K. Chesterton

Today marks the 75th anniversary of the execution of Operation Overlord, which came to be known by the annals of history as #DDay. On this day, more than 150,000 allied forces--facing bad weather when they hoped for light from a full moon--landed on the beaches of Normandy via an air and sea raid, with a goal of overwhelming the dug-in German army. Thousands were teenage boys with little experience in combat. On Omaha beach alone, America lost 2,400 of her best husbands, fathers, and sons. Today we remember those who fought so bravely and turned the tide of the WWII.

We also thank our many members who continue to honor the #GreatestGeneration and all of our troops with honor rides and trips. #Heroes

Motorcoach Industry, Like Trucking, Faces Driver Shortage

ABA President Peter Pantuso and ABA board member Bill Torres of Dc Trails Hop On Hop Off talked to Transport Topics about the motorcoach industry driver shortage.

ttnews.com Much is written about how the trucking industry loses drivers to other lines of work, but in some cases they’re not leaving to do something else — they’re leaving to drive something else: motorcoaches. Ironically, the bus industry is dealing with a driver shortage of its own.
