Child's Play

Thoughtful Toys and Books for More Than 30 Years

At Child’s Play, we believe in the right toys at the right time. We play each game, build each robotic arm and read each book that we sell. If it doesn’t live up to our high standards, we won’t sell it – it’s that simple.

For more than 30 years, Child’s Play has sold thoughtful toys and books, specially curated to develop children’s sense of wonder and play. Because play is the most important part of childhood. Visit our website www.barstonschildsplay.com.

We are not experts on the black experience, nor are we child psychologists, but we do know Children's books. Molly has prepared a list of incredible books by authors of color to discuss on Friday afternoon. Come check them out! If you have specific questions, feel free to leave them as a comment or message us and Molly can address them on Friday.

Now is not the time to be silent but explaining our country’s history of racism to your kids can feel impossible. The AAP has some great suggestions for talking to your kids during these scary and turbulent times.

Check in with your child. Ask what they know, what they've seen, and how they are feeling. Tell them you understand their feelings and reassure them it's normal to feel these emotions.

Watch for changes in your child's behavior. Call your pediatrician if you are concerned.

Limit what your child sees in the media. Do not leave the TV on in the background. With older children and teens, watch with them and talk together about what you're seeing.

Use this teachable moment. This is an opportunity to discuss the history of racism and discrimination in the US and help your children discover ways to make change.

If we are to progress in this country, it's going to be because we help our children, adolescents and young adults learn not just that racism exists, but that it is something all of us can work together to dismantle.

Learn more at healthychildren.org.

Child’s Play is here to support you with protest materials and anti-racist books for kids. Give us a call if we can help!
