Attorney Amanda Vogelsberg helps her clients by providing legal advice and guidance. She does this by listening to their situations, evaluating legal issues by asking questions and completing research, discerning clients’ goals and helping clients find acceptable resolutions. Sometimes her job is to prevent lawsuits and sometimes it involves mitigation of damage, defense or filing suit to pursue justice. Either way, she advocates and provides the best possible guidance by being informed, committed and available to each client. Amanda appears in the Shawnee County District Courthouse at least once a month and periodically substitutes for City of Topeka Municipal Court judges when needed. As a pro tem judge, she advises parties’ of their rights while maintaining neutrality. In that position, she cannot give legal advice but she can give an ear, patience and precise judgment. Amanda is a member of the Topeka Bar Association where she has served as board member representing young lawyers with 10 years of experience or less, is a member of the Family Law Committee and currently serves as the boards Elected Secretary. She is a member of the Society of Human Resource Management - Topeka Chapter and is a member of the Kansas Bar Association's Employment Law section. Through the KBA Amanda gives continuing legal education on the topics of “Employment Contract and Confidentiality Litigation” and “Non-compete Clauses and Other Restrictive Covenants in Employment Contracts.”
Amanda is a board member for ARTSConnect Topeka serving on the Governance Committee, the Mural Project Committee and has provided pro bono legal services for them.
Since 2013, Amanda has committed most all of her spare time to the Junior League of Topeka's Diaper Depot program. During her five year tenure on the Community Impact Council, the Junior League of Topeka was able to apply for and secure $51,600 in grant money, collect 441,535 diapers and distribute 365,353 individual diapers. Under her leadership the Junior League provided over 7,500 packages of diapers to thousands of families in Topeka and Shawnee County. She oversaw package preparation, ordering, transporting, and donating diapers, and organized countless local diaper drives. She spoke to clubs, Mayor Wolgast, Governor Brownback, and businesses about diaper need to raise awareness and acquire donations. She engaged another non-profit to sustain the program to impact more people for the long-term. She oversaw and planned three massive community-wide diaper distributions where 25,000-50,000 diapers were distributed per distribution in a matter of hours to diaper the most helpless babies in Shawnee County. This program served to relieve some of the financial burden for families faced with choosing to purchase food for their families or to diaper the baby. In May 2015, Amanda received the 2014-2015 Junior League of Topeka’s Active Member “MVP” award. This is a distinguished award given to an active member who helps achieve the League’s goals of promoting volunteerism, improving the community, and leading volunteers. She was honored for her commitment to Diaper Depot and her positive impact on the community.
Through League Amanda also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity helping to build homes, served meals with Silverbackks, volunteered with the Community Action Council to distribute backpacks to elementary students, and made educational tools for Parents As Teachers.
“I am a mother of young children, the only female lawyer at my firm, an employer, a new Topeka real estate investor, a leader, a philanthropist, and a trustworthy, thrifty and helpful person. I am proud of my efforts in helping to create and sustain Shawnee County’s (and one of Kansas’) only diaper bank and in my dedication to Junior League which improves the community through effective female leadership. I actively support lawyers and the appropriation of high ideals in my profession through dogged dedication to clients, participation in the Topeka Bar Association as its elected Secretary, and in building on past leadership as a program director in the Sam A. Crow American Inn of Court. Topeka is my home, and I’ll stay committed to making it a better place to live and work.”
