What is the History of the Red Door?

The history, origin, and meaning of a home having a red front door is varied. There is no one origin for the red exterior door, but there are indeed several based-on traditions.
Consider these meanings before heading out to buy home exterior paint:

In Feng Shui, a red front door means “welcome":

Feng Shui is a Chinese philosophy in which the arrangement and color of objects in a room relate to the flow of energy. The front door is known as the “Mouth of Chi” where energy enters. If you believe in or follow Feng Shui, painting your front door red would create welcoming energy.

A red door means “welcome” in an old early American tradition:

If a family had a red front door, tired travelers traveling by horse and buggy would know that a home was a welcoming place to rest. They would be able to spend the night there.

A red door provides protection:

In Biblical times, the Hebrew slaves were instructed to smear the blood of a lamb on their front doors to protect their firstborn from the angel of death. In old Catholicism, churches painted the doors of the church red to represent the blood of Christ. Passing through the door would mean that you were on holy ground. Some believed a red door protects the occupants from evil.

A red front door means mortgage-free:

In Scotland, homeowners would paint their front door red to signify that they had paid off their mortgage.

The bigger question…why red?
Red paint was the most expensive color pigment to put in paint. So, if you were no longer paying a bank loan every month, you could now afford to buy red-pigmented paint to paint our front door.

Finally...just because!
Supposedly, Albert Einstein painted his front door red so he could find his house!

Whatever color you choose, your home’s exterior is important and how you decorate the opening of your home should be inviting.

Here are 50 Great Examples of Front Door Entry Ways:

Some ideas for the INSIDE door color too:

There’s a big problem with the Fixer Upper homes

Real estate experts say the home owners, in an effort to make some quick cash, have over-priced the homes in a market that won’t bear it. Don't over-remodel for your neighborhood.

You've been getting messages lately asking, "are you in this video?"...etc. or something similar.

What's up with that?!!!
In my previous occupation (before becoming a Realtor), I worked in fraud investigations (National Association of Certified Fraud Investigators) here's the deal:

The video messages are scams designed to steal your Facebook account login details or trick you into installing malware (computer software that is install unbeknownst to you that has a malicious intent). The messages are sent from Facebook accounts that have been compromised by criminals and used to launch spam and scam campaigns. If you get one of these messages from a Facebook friend, IT MOST LIKELY MEANS YOUR FRIEND'S ACCOUNT HAS BEEN HIJACKED..

If you click the link in one of these messages, you may be taken to a fraudulent website that has been designed to look like a Facebook login page. A message on the site will claim that you must log in before you can see the video. In reality, there is no video. If you enter your Facebook email address and password on the fake site, criminals can collect the information and use it to hijack your Facebook account. They can then use your account to send the same scam messages to all of your friends.

Or, the fake site you are taken to may claim that you must copy and paste a section of code into your browser’s address bar in order to see the video. But, the code will be a malicious JavaScript and pasting it into your address bar can allow criminals to take control of your Facebook account. Again, they can use the compromised account to send scam and spam messages in your name.

Additionally, any messages that ask you to forward a message to all your contacts such as:
"Please tell all the contacts in your messenger list not to accept friendship request from Andrea Wilson. She is a hacker and has the system connected to your Facebook account" IS BOGUS...

I can assure you, the administrators at Facebook know how to find Andrea Wilson and delete her account...again, these are bogus and should be ignored....

Please share as appropriate (but not to everyone you've ever met in your life) :-)

They Took What?! The Strangest Things Home Sellers Have Removed—and What Buyers Can Do

...words are best to put all expectations in writing... Buyers have reported missing closet rods, shower heads, and even lightbulbs. Should home sellers be allowed to take these things with them when they move?

8 Quick and Economical Ways to Add Curb Appeal to your Home :

Clean: The first thing you should do to your home is give it a much-needed “bath”. Rent a power washer if you don’t own one or hire a professional.

Paint: Now that your home is squeaky clean, you can add a fresh coat of paint. Redoing the entire exterior of your home isn’t necessary, so if you’re working on a budget don’t worry. Instead, focus on painting a couple areas that will stand out.

Update Any Metals: Those outdated light fixtures, rusty house numbers, and ready to fall apart railings have got to go.

Symmetry: While updating and adding pieces to the front of your home, check for symmetry. Have lighting fixtures or potted plants on each side of your front door. This will not only look inviting but will ultimately make your home more pleasing to the eye.

Add Seating: Having a place to sit will make your home seem more inviting. No matter the size of your porch or backyard, find a piece of furniture that will fit the space.

Use Color: If your yard is lacking, use color—especially contrasting—to your advantage. Ditch the same old brown mulch for a brighter red. Find some bright colored pots for your plants and strategically place them around your yard.

Hide Unsightly Items: Remove the ugly from your yard. Garbage cans, recycling bins, AC units, toys and tools will take away from the organized and clean look you want.

Plants/Trees: If you have the budget, plant new trees, shrubs, or flowers. A splash of colorful plants can make a huge effect on home buyers.

Topeka, like the rest of the nation, has low inventory on available homes - we recently sold a home $5k above the asking price as buyers compete for desirable homes in certain locations. Let's discuss if you are interested in moving into or out of the housing market..

Some basic reasons why housing inventory is shrinking:
1. New-Home construction has failed to keep pace with growth;
2. Aging Housing Stock – as homes age, they need to be remodeled to remain functional or replaced;
3. Demographic Shift – Millennials have overtaken the baby boomers as the largest adult population starting to buy homes;
4. Homeowner Tenure Grows – homeowners are staying put longer.

Man and a Fork

There was a young man who had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and had been given three months to live. So as he was getting his things 'in order,' he contacted his Priest and had him come to his house to discuss certain aspects of his final wishes.

He told him which songs he wanted sung at the service, what scriptures he would like read, and what outfit he wanted to be buried in.

Everything was in order and the Priest was preparing to leave when the young man suddenly remembered something very important to him.

'There's one more thing,' he said excitedly...

'What's that?' came the Priest's reply.

'This is very important,' the young man continued.

'I want to be buried with a fork in my right hand.'

The Priest stood looking at the young man, not knowing quite what to say.

That surprises you, doesn't it?' the young man asked.

'Well, to be honest, I'm puzzled by the request,' said the Priest.

The young man explained. 'My grandmother once told me this story, and from that time on I have always tried to pass along its message to those I love and those who are in need of encouragement.

In all my years of attending socials and dinners, I always remember that when the dishes of the main course were being cleared, someone would inevitably lean over and say,
'Keep your fork.

' It was my favorite part because I knew that something better was coming .... like velvety chocolate cake or deep-dish apple pie.

Something wonderful, and with substance!'

So, I just want people to see me there in that casket with a fork in my hand and I want them to wonder 'What's with the fork?'

Then I want you to tell them:
'Keep your fork ... the best is yet to come.'

The Priest's eyes welled up with tears of joy as he hugged the young man good-bye. He knew this would be one of the last times he would see him before his death.

But he also knew that the young man had a better grasp of heaven than he did. He had a better grasp of what heaven would be like than many people twice his age, with twice as much experience and knowledge.

He KNEW that something better was coming.

At the funeral, people were walking by the young man's casket and they saw the suit he was wearing and the fork placed in his right hand. Over and over, the Priest heard the question, 'What's with the fork?' And over and over he smiled.

During his message, the Priest told the people of the conversation he had with the young man shortly before he died. He also told them about the fork and about what it symbolized to him.

He told the people how he could not stop thinking about the fork and told them that they probably would not be able to stop thinking about it either.

He was right. So the next time you reach down for your fork let it remind you, ever so gently, that the best is yet to come.

Friends are a very rare jewel, indeed.
They make you smile and encourage you to succeed.

Cherish the time you have, and the memories you share. Being friends with someone is not an opportunity, but a SWEET responsibility.
