What an Attorney-General Sessions would mean for marijuana

marketwatch.com

Trump nominee for Attorney General Jeff Sessions doesn't look so good for cannabis. Not sure that it matters at this point, as the cat is way out of the bag, but he's made noises about enforcement.

Trump’s Climate Contrarian: Myron Ebell Takes On the E.P.A.

nytimes.com

Everyone in the world has already seen this, right? After a recent slate of U.S. Supreme Court decisions taking federal agencies to task (see, for example, Michigan v. EPA), and the lack of appetite for environmental regulation, it'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Sarah Palin was in line for Secretary of the Interior, but I haven't seen that she or anyone else was actually nominated.

Also, Washington voters failed to pass the country's first carbon tax, probably as a result of folks making the perfect the enemy of the good, though, and not because people in Washington don't support some kind of mitigation of carbon footprint. Washington still has a fairly environment-focused administration, however, and there's no reason to assume that Jay Inslee and Bob Ferguson, both of whom were handily re-elected and both of whom have made the environment a key focus of their administrations, will discontinue the work they've started.

Nationally, I assume immigration laws will be top of mind as we move into the next year to two, but I'll still be following the environmental developments as they occur.
