March Is When the Sun Crosses the Equator

“There are two equinoxes every year – in March and September – when the Sun shines directly on the equator and the length of night and day are nearly equal.

The March equinox marks the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator – the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator – from south to north. This happens on March 19, 20, or 21 every year.”

Equal days and equal nights mean equal opportunities to enjoy what Morocco has to offer, with or without the sun.

Hot and Cold in Morocco

If you want to go skiing in Morocco, the best time for it is around January to February. So pack your clothes for the cold now and visit the High Atlas Mountains! If you’re not into that, you can also go for desert trekking in the Sahara.

History
The Whittemore House, home of the Woman’s National Democratic Club, is an elegant his-toric mansion located in Washington's DuPont Circle neighborhood. Built between 1892 and 1894 as a private residence, it was designed by Washington architect Harvey L. Page (1859-1934) for opera singer Sarah Adams Whittemore, a descendent of the well-known Adams family of Massachusetts, and William C. Whittemore, her second husband.
Several well-known occupants have lived in the house. In 1903 Senator John F. Dryden (1839-1911), a Republican from New Jersey and one of the founders of Prudential Insurance Company, rented the building. Dryden was a member of Congress from 1902 to 1907. The best-known tenant was banker John W. Weeks (1860-1926), a Republican Congressman from Massachusetts (1905-1913), who leased the Whittemore House from 1907 to 1911. Later he was elected a Senator from Massachusetts (1913 to 1919) and served as Secretary of War under Harding and Coo-ledge (1921 to 1925). Mrs. Whittemore died in 1907, and left the property to her son and daughter. Her son, Walter D. Wilcox, an explorer, travel author, and photographer, moved his family into the home in 1919, living in the mansion until 1926. The house has been known as the Weeks House and as the Wilcox House in its history.
The Whittemore House has a kinship to both the English Arts and Crafts movement and American “Shingle Style” architecture. It shares with these movements a retreat from the beaux-arts style that dominated the Washington landscape in the late 1800s. The design of the Whittemore House suggests that Page was in tune with the most advanced architectural thinking of his day, which emphasized the elimination of non-essential decorative details in lieu of simplicity of form and an open free flowing interior plan. The house was also one of the first in Washington to be electrified.

Skiing in Morocco

When you think of Morocco, do you only have deserts and heat in mind? We'll have you know that Morocco is a great place for winter activities, too!

If you’re into skiing, you can spend the day in a ski resort. One we would recommend is the highest ski resort in Africa — the Ouka'meden. You can find this 45 km away from Marrakech along the High Atlas Mountains. You can definitely enjoy the thrill of rocky slopes and more.

The Waterfalls Beyond Imouzzer Ida Ou Tanane

The village of Imouzzer Ida Ou Tanane used to be too difficult to get to. Nowadays, it’s famous for the spectacular cascades or waterfalls that are at full blossom only in the winter. This can be found 4 km away from the village.

Trekking in Sahara

Trekking along the Sahara desert is best done in February and March. This is when the temperature is the mildest. Around that time, you can also enjoy the flowering plants at the base of the dunes.

Visit Sahara now before it’s too late! The intolerable heat strikes once more around April. Sandstorms also happen more frequently around that time, beginning at the end of March.

Don’t Be InSOLEnt: Hide Your Soles

In Morocco, one thing you should always keep in mind is to NEVER show your soles or the bottom of your shoes to the locals. The feet are considered unclean and shoes are perceived as dirty. It could be seen as rude or offensive.

If you don’t want to unintentionally send a negative message and seem impolite, make sure to keep your soles to yourself. Also, take off your shoe’s when entering someone’s house.

The Hassle of the Haggle

If you check out travel blogs of people who’ve been to Morocco before, you might notice the ceaseless mention of haggling. Keep in mind that this will be an inevitable experience here.

Make sure to think about what you want and the price you're willing to pay beforehand. You can also find less hassle in purchasing stuff if you go to fixed-price shops.

Other than that, always do your research before traveling, especially if it’s to a place that you’ve never been to before.

we used Hassan's travel agency to go to Morocco as a group of 23. By far this was the most memorable trip we have had so far mostly due to the attention and personal interest by Hassan. I cannot say enough about the country and its people. Hassan worked with our group leader with utmost respect and patience ( we wanted it done perfectly and had many revisions and changes to the itinerary) .after this trip Hassan is now a part of our extended family. I will endorse this agency without reservations to anyone who is looking into using it to go to Morocco

Today's testimonial from a family of 4 people
Pop Rop
I booked a last-minute trip to Morocco for our family after talking to Hassan a couple of times on the phone. We had a wonderful 7 day visit, and got a great sense of the history, culture, and geography of the country. Hassan organized the trip, using local contacts and sources in the country.
I found my interactions with Casablanca Travel and Tours to be honest and honorable. I would book with Hassan without hesitation. Recognize that with international travel occasional snafus are expected, but that Hassan and his contacts in the country will be available to take care of things if these occur.

Remember These When Traveling in Morocco

a. Friday is a holy day, which means most shops and museums are closed then, especially in the afternoon.

b. Moroccans are generally honest and friendly, and there’s a low violent crime rate in Morocco. But you should still be careful of pickpockets and petty thieves in the major cities.

c. Keep small change for tips in restaurants. For instance, $1 per person at local places would do, or you can give a little more if it’s somewhere expensive.

Diane Lehman

Our extended family recently returned from a 12-day trip prepared for us by Mr. Hassan. The itinerary was refined to accommodate the interests and abilities of our group, ranging in ages from 29 to 93. We had a terrific experience in Morocco as a result of his plans and efforts. Every concern was addressed, both in the United States before our trip, and more importantly, in Morocco during our trip. We can not recommend these services more emphatically.

Ibn Battuta: Traveling Makes You a Storyteller

Ibn Battuta, a Berber Muslim Moroccan scholar and explorer who widely traveled the medieval world, once said, “Traveling... leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.”

For almost thirty years, Ibn Battuta visited a lot of Islamic and non-Islamic lands, including Central Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and more. Just like him, you might want to discover more about the beauty of the Muslim world.

Morocco has a lot of stories to offer. Casablanca Travel & Tours can take you there!
