Great to see you at the MCM Historic Half this morning, Doctor Wong! Thanks for the encouragement and advice as I was starting Hospital Hill. That hill's a beast! It seemed to never end. My legs are spent but I'm feeling good overall.

Dr. Wong has extensive training in Active Release Technique® & Graston Technique®, the two premier soft tissue techniques in the field. Dr. Wong has worked with athletes, celebrity personalities as well as people from all walks of life. His extensive list of clients includes professional triathletes, golfers, elite runners, professional football and soccer players. He is the official Chiropractor for DCUnited MLS soccer since 2007. Athletes have found their recovery time to be shorter compared to traditional chiropractic or conventional physical therapy treatments. Many athletes also take advantage of Dr. Wong's skills during their training cycle to address minor aches and pains to minimize the risk of any injuries. Dr. Wong has been named the Best Sports Medicine Doctor of the Mid-Atlantic Region in 2013, 2014, 2015 by Competitor Magazine.

Glute Activation || with Gwen. Jorgensen

I get asked a lot about glute activation exercises. Well, here it is. I came across this last week from Gwen Jorgensen (a professional triathlete/marathoner). I’ve done them consistently and these exercises are aswesome!!

There are 9 exercises total. It shouldn’t take you more than 15 minutes.

Major take away:
1. You don’t have to do all of them every time; but you do have to do some of them EVERYDAY. Don’t over exhaust your glute/legs with these exercises. It’s meant to activate and not fatigue.

2. The location of the band... total game changer. Especially for those who wraps the band around the lower leg/ankle.

3. Do these barefoot. Just like she does.

[01/14/19]   The road condition is not as bad as Saturday or Sunday. I left the house earlier than usual. It took me a bit longer, but I’m already at the office.

Be cautious when you’re on the road. Drive a little bit slower, brake a bit earlier, and give yourself more space with the car in front of you.

Scientific bases for precompetition tapering strategies. - PubMed - NCBI

Tapering for fall marathon season may have started for some of you.

Science says the best is way to taper is “by maintaining training intensity; reducing the training volume (up to 60-90%) and slightly reducing training frequency (no more than 20%). The optimal duration of the taper ranges between 4 and more than 28 d.”

Me and reality suggest spending the extra time with the people that have been supportive to our fitness goals and thank them for being accommodating to our training schedule; be productively restful (ie. sleep lots); get things ready for race day out of the way (don’t leave everything to the last minute); do some mental training (envision a positive and fun race.)

Remember we choose to train and race because we love it. Be mindful and enjoy the tapering phase.

Nike Breaking2 Trailer

Nike is contriving to get 3 of their runners to break the 2 hour marathon barrier this weekend. These world class athletes will be running on a special downhill course, with wind tunnels, and in special custom sneakers.

In case you want to know how fast that is, next time you're on the treadmill, set the speed to 13.1 and try to hang on to that speed. The pace is 4:35 min/mi. Most treadmills don't go faster than 12 mph. And please do not hurt yourself doing so.
