The Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum has been impacted by the covid-19 shutdowns. School field trips, Scout programs, and our popular Bunny Bonanza event were canceled. To stay connected with our community during the shutdown, we launched a “virtual museum” with downloadable educational materials and fun activities about farming, and we started a blog. Your gift to GiveChoose, no matter the size, will help the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum provide educational programs and other activities for our community while we are temporarily closed and beyond. https://www.givechoose.org/LoudounHeritageFarmMuseum

Long Stone Farm is one of Loudoun’s farms with a store where you can buy locally raised and produced food. Our local farmers need support all the time but especially during these challenging times.
The round bales of straw we picked up at the equipment auction are awesome. Two bales and we effectively padded a large pig pen in no time! And there is plenty extra for the pigs to burrow down in to keep cozy when the temps drop at night this week. They thoroughly enjoyed the sunshine today. We’ll start to train these pigs to temporary fencing next week after they have had a week to settle.
We also had another healthy calf delivered today 😊 The cow/calf group is viewable from the farm stand if you want sneak a peek at the babies when you visit! Just remember to not touch our fence.
Spring is a month old and the rabbits are hopping outside! Visit our Virtual Museum page for a new lesson and activities on rabbits. https://bit.ly/2X6Nvrv

Since the museum has been closed, Milkie has been let out of the barn and learning all about the exhibits. Who knew there were hybrid tractors in 1940!

At A Farm Less Ordinary, despite the extraordinary working conditions, they’re still operating and carrying out their mission of employing and training people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These growers are doing an awesome job planting all kinds of produce for their #CSA season, and AFLO is doing an awesome job of providing a welcoming community in an otherwise isolating crisis. 🌱💛

We’re happy about this beautiful spring day!
🐝 Don’t worry. Bee happy. 🐝
What are you happy about today?
Claude Moore Park
It's BLUEBIRD time again at Claude Moore Park! Did you know that we have many nesting boxes to attract the Eastern Bluebird? They also attract Chickadees, House Wrens, and Tree Swallows. Many thanks to the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy for monitoring these boxes for us. They were here recently and the results are in!
We had two boxes with several Bluebird eggs each. We also had a box full of Chickadee eggs. In another photo, you can see the nest construction really well- wood shavings, moss, dried grasses, and twigs.
We'll keep you posted on the goings-on in the boxes. Please do not disturb the boxes when you visit the Park. It is fun, however, to find a spot nearby one and watch and wait. Who knows who you will see going in and out!
The next time you visit the Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum, take a selfie by one of our antique tractors. In the meantime, enjoy the tractor activity at our virtual museum. https://heritagefarmmuseum.org/virtual-education
If you need a hint, visit our new Virtual Museum where we have educational materials and farmtastic fun activities.

Everyone say hello to the newest additions to Edgegrove Farm LLC, courtesy of Day Spring Farm! Millie and her calf are helping Edgegrove become a more self-reliant, sustainably-integrated farm. How, you ask? Dairy, which can be used to supplement the diets of the humans and the piggies.
Now they’re stuck with one big problem: Should they name Millie’s calf Mabel? Or Maisey? 🐄🤔

A fun outdoor activity from our friends at Claude Moore Park.
Molly and Sam are 8th generation farmers who raise goats, chickens, and pigs at George's Mill Farm in Lovettsville, Virginia (https://www.georgesmillcheese.com/). They produce artisan goat cheese and have a farm store where they sell their products and those of local farmers. We visited with Molly while she was feeding the baby goats. Two of them were only a day old! More videos to come! We encourage everyone to support their local farmers.

Great post from our friends at Claude Moore Park. Although the Museum is closed, the park is open for walking and jogging. Enjoy the spring weather!
A Park visitor shared this great photo of a herd of deer at Claude Moore Park. The photo was taken earlier this week. Notice that one of the deer has its tail up. This “white flag” signals the others in the herd to be on alert. White tailed deer do this first before running away from a potential predator or other danger.
