Renew Kids had a blast on Easter Sunday! #RenewSeattle
Reader, exhale! Let all the air out of your lungs. Now breathe in and fill them up again. There are times in our lives when we are deflated--life has been sucked out of us. Disappointment clouds our days. Things just don’t seem to pan out. We haven’t gotten what we’ve wanted in quite some time. #Lent2017
renewchurchseattle.org "For some reason, we tend to localize evil in our bodies more than in our mind, heart and spirit. We are terribly ashamed of our embodiment, and our shame is invariably located in addictive things like drinking, drugs, sex, overeating and body image. Maybe that is why God had to become a body in Jes...
The people of Christ for Paul is a new people rising, and he is calling the emerging church of Gentile and Jew into very practical ways of taking off the old clothes and putting on the new clothes, of living lives worthy of the calling. These lives necessarily must reflect the identity of being a people reconciled to Christ and to one another. #Lent
renewchurchseattle.org If you can imagine stepping in the middle of a family dispute or a conflict that’s been going on for years and years full spite, retribution and pettiness— stepping into the middle of the hostility and being being responsible for keeping the peace. One group says one thing, the other reacts, and te...
The way to life is often marked by sign-posts communicating the ridiculous. Siri is at a loss. Alexa is speechless. Cortana is asleep. Absent the usual navigational tools, the Spirit urges us to follow at the crossroads even without the cheering crowds, the votes of confidence, the affirmation, the pats on the back, the compensation. The barren, abandoned road—devoid of the spirit of the age; absent conventional thinking; unattached to the bottom line of smart economics; unbedded by the power players. Utter foolishness! Completely scandalous! #Lent
renewchurchseattle.org Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 (CEB) 18 The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are being destroyed. But it is the power of God for those of us who are being saved. 19 It is written in scripture: I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will reject the intelligence of the…
We see a family torn apart by a struggle for provision, blessing, and inheritance. God is faithful to redeem and reconcile all things, in spite of how we muddle things up!

What makes you grumble or quarrel with other people? What does scarcity look like right now? What is scarce in the communities you are in? #Lent
renewchurchseattle.org Scripture Reading: Exodus 17:1-71 The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin, traveling from place to place as the LORD commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. 2 So they quarreled with Moses and said, "Give us water to drink." Moses repl...
What is Lent?
March 1st (tomorrow) is known to the Church as Ash Wednesday. Lent begins every year with Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Thursday. In total, Lent is the 40 (plus 6 Sundays) days before Easter, and is a time set aside for believers to take on a posture of remembrance and prepare for renewal through disciplines such as penitence, fasting, prayer, and giving. Our minds and bodies and souls prepare for Christ’s death and resurrection by embarking on the wilderness journey just as the people of the Exodus had--and just as Jesus had done before his public ministry.
Each day of Lent 2017 (minus Sundays) we will be posting reflections from Pastor Dave Sim. Here's the first:
