Gause Law Offices PLLC

Gause Law Offices PLLC is a criminal defense firm in Seattle, Washington. We represent clients accused of serious felony crimes throughout the State of Washington.

Why do we love being criminal defense attorneys?

We get to be the bright light of hope in an otherwise dismal situation. We get to be the voice that eases our clients concerns when they are terrified about what might happen to them. We get to fight with them, challenging every allegation against them, and working tirelessly to prove their defense. There's no other job we'd rather have.

Criminal defense is our passion.

Gause Law Offices was founded in November 2014. We provide affordable, aggressive, and compassionate advocacy for our clients.

Our practice focuses on representing people accused of serious felony crimes in state courts and in federal courts, both in the Western District of Washington as well as the Eastern District of Washington. We practice throughout the State of Washington, and are familiar with many courts in various counties including: Kitsap, King, Snohomish, Whatcom, Pierce, Cowlitz, Clark, Chelan, Kittitas, and Garfield.

At Gause Law Offices, we believe that everyone has a story, and our role is to be the advocate that tells your story.

Gause Law Offices PLLC is pleased to announce that Andrea Kim has joined the team as an associate attorney. Andrea has extensive experience in criminal defense. Like Emily Gause, she too knew she was destined to be a criminal defense attorney from a young age. Andrea spent time with Associated Counsel for the Accused, interned with a juvenile court judge, and spent her last year in law school in he Federal Public Defenders office in Seattle. After law school, Andrea worked for Feldman & Lee in Snohomish County and became one of their most effective and experienced attorneys, often training and managing new lawyers to the firm. She then was asked to become a partner at Choi Capital Law where she started that firm's criminal defense practice. Andrea joined Gause Law Offices on May 1, 2017.

Andrea's heart has always been in criminal defense, and she has dedicated her life to helping those who are accused of crimes. She is a zealous advocate, often obtaining dismissals and substantial reductions. She is a trial rock star, and has a mastery of the rules of evidence. And her clients appreciate her attention to detail, compassionate communication, and dedication to helping them fight their case.

With the addition of Andrea to the team, Gause Law Offices will now be accepting referrals for misdemeanors such as DUI's, domestic violence, drug possession, malicious mischief, or theft in the third degree. Andrea also assists clients with domestic violence protection orders. Andrea will lead the team in defending these kinds of cases.

For the First Time Ever, a Prosecutor Will Go to Jail for Wrongfully Convicting an Innocent Man

"What makes today’s plea newsworthy is not that Anderson engaged in misconduct that sent an innocent man to prison. Indeed, while most prosecutors and police officers are ethical and take their constitutional obligations seriously, government misconduct—including disclosure breaches known as Brady violations—occurs so frequently that it has become one of the chief causes of wrongful conviction.

What’s newsworthy and novel about today’s plea is that a prosecutor was actually punished in a meaningful way for his transgressions." Today in Texas, former prosecutor and judge Ken Anderson pled guilty to

Legal Financial Obligations Are the New Debtors’ Prison

There is some amazing work being done in this State to change the amount of debt we saddle people with as they try to rebuild their lives after prison. I am proud to be a part of this work. Legal financial obligations can saddle a prisoner with exponentially increasing debt long after they’ve been released from prison.

Teen's slaying tied to man's mysteriously violent life

Cases in the News Violence follows Samuel Rezene. He can't say why. Maybe it was bad luck that he was nearly killed at a Renton Shell station. Or that his mom's car was torched. Or that someone gunning for him killed a Tacoma woman laid to rest at age 19.

Man accused of threatening Pierce County judge is arraigned

Cases in the News -- Michael Deshawn Denton, 32, pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of intimidating a judge and felony harassment. He’s accused of threatening to kill Superior Court Judge Stanley Rumbaugh while in court June 13.

[04/06/17]   From a zesty motion I am working on tonight:

"In an era when the person who became President of the United States bragged about sexually assaulting women with little to no repercussions, the City of Seattle wishes to prosecute, stigmatize and possibly jail someone for allegedly agreeing to engage in consensual sexual activity. Having renamed the state crime of “patronizing a prostitute” to the biased and politically charged name of “sexual exploitation,” the City is essentially advancing a politically regressive and anti-feminist agenda at the expense of the defendant in this case, and at the expense of society in general. The result of the City’s campaign to shame people for trying to engage in natural sexual acts with consenting adults will be to marginalize even further sex workers, and to expose them to more danger than they currently face.

The defendant therefore seeks the intervention of the Court, as the protector of liberty, to intervene and to utilize its historic function to protect people from the overreaching of the Government. The Court should dismiss the charges in this case because the current so-called “sexual exploitation” ordinance is unconstitutional, it conflicts with state law, and because it was improperly adopted by an ordinance covering more than one subject."

United States v. Young, CASE NO. 3:14-cr-05242-RJB (W.D. Wash. Mar. 6, 2017)

The latest win for Gause Law Offices -- for yet another Brady violation. Holding officers accountable is one of my favorite things to do! THIS MATTER comes before the Court on Defendant James Young's Motion to Withdraw Guilty Plea. Dkt. 264. The Court has considered the motion, the Government's Response (Dkt. 274), Mr. Young's Reply (Dkt. 276), and the remainder of the file herein. The Court also considered oral argument and the sworn...
