Congratulations, Maryann Kuchera ~ Employee of the Month for February! 🎉

Maryann was hired in March of 1993, and what a good day it was! Who knew that 25 years later that she would still be working her magic in the basement of the club! She started her career at the club in the housekeeping department, (also where she met her Husband) while she was attending Seattle Massage School. She graduated at the top of her class and started in the massage department in 1994.

She is so passionate about therapeutic massage that she convinced the manager at the time, Virginia Kennedy, that there was a need for more massage at the club! She spear-headed the use of chair massage and found a way to implement a second room! Such history!

Maryann continues to study her craft and refine her skills, for all of our benefit. She is dedicated, diligent and allows her hands to be lead by her heart. In her free time, Maryann paints and explores the world as a Mother, a Healer and a Friend.

The below are reflections of how Maryann’s presence has effected the lives of many members and co-workers alike.

MaryAnn personifies the gym's mission and values: she brings out the best in every one she touches - physically, intellectually and through her profound kindness. Every day she is at the club, MaryAnn can be seen helping others, giving advice to relieve aches and pains and sharing wisdom on health and happiness. MaryAnn does not stand still, she is constantly expanding her skill set, experimenting with new technics and learning. Our family feels truly grateful to have her in our lives.

- Kevin Coluccio & Margie Duckstad (Gus and Charlie too!)

I would like to share with you that MaryAnn is simply the best massage therapist that
I have ever had the pleasure of working with. She is extremely ‘ tuned - in’ to understand
What treatment is best for massage session. She continues to study, read and learn new
Techniques to improve her skill. She has just amazing passion to grow and gain greater understanding and insight for my particular needs. MaryAnn truly exemplifies the notion
Of ‘ going the extra mile’ - to be the very best that she can be.

- Doug Sanders

MaryAnn Kuchera is a gift!
She is an excellent massage therapist— in part because her fingers “see” and in part because, due to her insatiable curiosity,
she regularly incorporates new methods, techniques and theory into her practice.
She is an excellent connector-- MaryAnn knows the members, recognizes opportunities for connections and helps with networking.
The consummate professional, she is also kind, insightful, intelligent, and engaging.
Cheers to MaryAnn for this well deserved recognition!

- Monica deBaca

Maryann Kuchera is a truly remarkable human being: she tends to her family; tends to her artistry; and on all three days of her shift, bikes from her home in Magnolia to the Club. Here, she to conducts a comprehensive workout before her shift; then proceeds to administer her considerable massage skills to her clients, who are many – and see her regularly. She is consistently the most fully booked of all our LMPs! So, I have decided to emulate Maryann – 68 is not too late to emulate!

-Julie Bacon

Maryann is a pillar of our community at the SAC. She takes on our members and employees health and wellness as a mission to improve their quality of life. She is an avid learner of all things health and wellness, and this is where you will see her passion in sharing her knowledge with anyone who wants to learn about the body. She has a dedication to finding out answers to people's ailments, even if it means referring them out to other health professionals. Who is Marryann to our club, she is the Wikipedia of the human body with the healing touch of a mother all wrapped into one caring and thoughtful person.

- Jacob Luckey

MaryAnn is truly a modern renaissance woman whose dedication to her craft (whether in body work, massage, visual art, or parenting) reflects her integrity, abundant creativity, and passion. Her stellar reputation as a generous human and a brilliant artist is supported by her popularity throughout her decades at the club.

- Danielle Zack

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! ❤️

Big Think

A great updated way to look at setting goals; much like the accountability report cards used in our Lose It body transformation program.

Our traditional way of setting goals to succeed is fundamentally broken. It usually leads to hitting arbitrary numbers with little tangible results.

What if we set up helpful systems for ourselves instead? Adam Alter explains.

❤️ February is Heart Health Month! ❤️

Do you know your heart facts?
.
.
.
.

Heart disease is a major problem in the United States. According to the CDC about 1 out of every 4 deaths is related to heart disease each year and is the leading cause of death for both men and women. An unhealthy heart is one that has Coronary Artery Disease (CAD), which occurs when a substance called plaque builds up in the arteries that supply blood to the heart. CAD can cause heart attack, angina, heart failure, and arrhythmias. One easy way to know the health of your heart is to have your blood pressure taken regularly. Normal resting blood pressure in an adult is approximately 120/80 mm Hg; as your resting blood pressure increases so does your chances for CAD. If you want to know what your blood pressure is, ask any of our fitness staff to assist in taking your free reading as it is a part of our services to our members.

Do you know how the signs and symptoms of a heart attack differ from men to women?

❗️Warning signs found more in Women:

- Shortness of breath, lightheadedness, and dizziness (having trouble breathing for no apparent reason)
- Pain in arms, back, neck, or jaw (pain can be gradual or sudden)
- Cold sweats (feels like a stress-related sweat rather than perspiration from exercise or spending time outside in the heat)
- Stomach pain (often mistaken for heartburn, the flu, or a stomach ulcer)
- Extreme fatigue (challenging to do simple tasks such as walk to the bathroom)

❗️Warning signs found more in Men:

- Arm pain (more common in the left, but may occur in either arm), upper back pain and upper middle abdomen discomfort. Overall, upper body pain.
- Jaw pain, toothache, and headache
- Shortness of breath, cold sweats, anxiety
- Heartburn and/or indigestion
- No signs (1/4 of all heart attacks are silent!!!)

❗️Common warning signs for BOTH men and women:

- Chest pain, including pressure and squeezing around the chest area.
- Nausea and vomiting

*If you think you may be experiencing any of these symptoms seek medical attention immediately
