New House Manager at Belle Epicurean Madison Park
Ask Café Manager Xavier Frost what is most important to him in his new position at Belle Epicurean in Madison Park, and he doesn’t miss a beat.

“Really good guest service,” he said.

Frost sees hospitality as a way to impact people’s lives in a positive way, and it’s a guiding value for him. Asked where he acquired that sense of dedication, and he credits his experience working at a diner in his hometown of Manassus, Virginia, as inspiration. The manager of the restaurant, who became like a second mother to him, extended genuine caring to everyone who walked in the door whether they were a customer, an employee, or a neighbor. Observing the positive impact she had on those around her made a deep impression, he said, and it’s been a lifelong mission to pay it forward.

Working as a restaurant manager wasn’t always an obvious choice for the Virginia native, who came to Seattle in 2003. A talented acrobat and fire breather, he became part of Seattle’s community of circus performers; after several years, he bought Pure Cirkus and produced shows in the theater space below restaurant El Gaucho. Performance is another way to make people happy, Xavier said, by connecting with them in the moment. After leaving production and traveling in Europe for two years, he made a career pivot and entered the University of Washington to get his bachelor’s degree in physics. While the science was fascinating, he said, it lacked the immediacy of the hospitality industry. “You can have an impact on people’s lives every day,” he said. Whether it’s delicious food, a gracious atmosphere, or exceptional customer service, his goal is to give everyone who comes through the door the feeling they’ve arrived at their second home.

Looking forward, he has big plans for the Madison Park location. Soon, Belle Epicurean will host a regular happy hour each week on Thursday and Friday, and a slightly more formal style of service will roll out in mid-September. The exceptional and carefully curated wine stock is something he wants people to be as familiar with as they are Chef Carolyn’s extraordinary pastries, Xavier said, as well as the takeaway entrees available in the freezer.

Xavier also looks forward to meeting more of the Belle Epicurean community, and invites people to come by the café this Thursday, September 7th, from 6 to 9 pm for a wine tasting of Chilean varietals. The evening features hors d’oeuvres created by Chef Carolyn, hospitality by Chilean wine expert Francisca Brava, and music by Bossa nova artists Adriana and Marcos. No rsvp needed, just a warm welcome to the newest member of the Belle Epicurean family.
