The 2/3 Graders visited the Burke Museum and learned a lot about the First Nations of the Pacific Northwest. Children were very interested and got to make fish traps!

On Friday the whole school spent a very enchanting day at Discovery Park. We went on an exploration of the park, used our five senses to observe the nature around us and we drew and wrote about it. In the afternoon we went on a tour with a guide and learned about the trees, the plants, the animals and all living world of the forest! The kids found a lot of interesting little bébêtes!

Les papillons sont sortis de leurs cocons! Les Maternelles were happy to finally admire their beautiful little classroom pets and decided to send them free during their field trip. Have fun pollinating little guys!

Pre-K: Decades Worth Of Studies, One Strong Message (NPR)

Interesting read... What happens when a group of the nation's leading pre-K experts get together to lay out a blueprint for what parents, and educators, can learn from decades of research?

Yannick Noah - Aux arbres citoyens

We hope you didn't spend too much time in the French Election lines...
Civic duty doesn't stop there and for our young citizens there is an easy way to contribute. This week students celebrated Spring and Earth Day. 2nd/3rd grade wrote speeches about endangered animals and 1st grade planted seeds. The children even started an organization to stop pollution and proposed a park cleanup day. We are so proud of our young environmentalists!
Here is a happy song about pollution and the importance of preserving the environment by planting trees. The song is called “Aux arbres citoyens” by Yannick Noah.

Our planet needs more butterflies, don't you think?

Our 1st Graders were busy saving our Earth this week too! They read two books about environment titled "J'aime la Terre" et "La classe de Madame Renard devient ecolo" and discussed and made a list of things we can do to protect our dear planet. On Tuesday the students decided to keep the lights shut in the class to save energy. On Thursday they planted seeds (corn, bean, lettuce and sunflowers) and on Friday they went around the school to collect trash and then sorted it between recycle, compost and trash.
Students wrote in their cahier du jour what they like about Earth and also studied a poem titled "Ah! que la terre est belle!"
Busy little Bees!

[04/22/17]   Looking forward to seeing everyone at the potluck today from 12-2! There is a road closure close by but the school is accessible via 8th Ave NE!
