The Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program is the music department of the Seattle Film Institute and offers a Masters of Music in Film Composition.
We offer a Master of Music in Film Composition degree which can be attained in 40 weeks. We are the only one-year film composition graduate program in the United States.
Some of the unique qualities about our program include:
• 9 live recording sessions with professional players (not students) ranging from 3 to 52 musicians to give our students opportunities to score with a wide variety of ensembles
• Scoring sessions are done at Studio X – Seattle’s premiere world-class studio
• Students have 7 opportunities to hone their podium skills conducting their own work in the sessions
• Each student has the opportunity to work with multiple directors and score actual film projects submitted to the program from film schools across the globe
• Classes in all major notation and sequencer software programs being used in the industry today
• Each student is assigned a state-of-the-art workstation fully installed with all taught software, sample libraries and plug-ins (you do not need to already own or purchase your own computer, equipment or software)
Being a one-year Masters program allows our students to begin their careers in the industry a year sooner than other traditional programs. Graduates of our program have been very successful going on to work on a number of projects including: (television shows) Once Upon a Time, Castle, Empire, American Idol; (video games) World of Warcraft, Spate, Dungeons of Dreadmor; (films) The Revenant, and Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.
