Good morning Facebook friends! Today is PI DAY!!! To celebrate pi day we eat PIE (all kinds). Here are the top 10 places in Seattle to get your pie fix :
A la Mode
Head to either A la Mode location and enter to win a free private pie tasting and making class for 10 people with Chris Porter—valued at $1000. Bring your business card and come early—Pi Day is apparently a line-around-the-block affair for A la Mode. (Phinney and West Seattle)
Both Big Mario's locations will sell slices (any kind you want) for $3.14. (Queen Anne and Capitol Hill)
To mark March 14, Cafe Racer will apparently have 3.14 pies, and you can buy a slice for $3.14 each. (University District)
To celebrate March 14, 12 amateur and professional pastry chefs will feature their favorite pies. There will be pie samples and one pie from each chef will be up for auction—all proceeds from which will benefit the Refugee Women's Alliance—plus, there will be music from KEXP DJ Greg Vandy. Confirmed chefs include Heather Earnhardt of the The Wandering Goose, Brent Amaker of Brent Amaker and the Rodeo, Jeff Silva of the Flying Apron, Kevin Sur and Katie McColgan of Artist Home, Adam Ydstie of The Warehouse, DahliaBakery TDR, Macrina Bakery, and Mark Fuller of MaOno & New Luck Toy. (Ballard)
The Hideout will celebrate "we like everything we can put in our mouth day" by handing out mini meat pies (made by Dylon Tubb) starting at 9 pm and going until they're gone. There will also be "drink specials that stretch the human imagination," "steak-flavored highballs," and "a cider and shot combo for all you vanilla folks." Plus, music! (First Hill)
Lost Lake Cafe & Lounge
The winner of Lost Lake's second annual Pi Day Pie Eating Contest (open to employees of Capitol Hill businesses) will win $500 for charity. $3.14 slices of A La Mode pies will be available afterwards. (Capitol Hill)
“Ten will enter, one will win,” promises the Pi Day Pie-Eating Contest’s page. So just like Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, but with more contestants and fewer chain saws strapped to the side of a dome-shaped death cage. What do those 10 contestants stand to win, besides an upset stomach? A $25 gift card to Serious Pie, fittingly. The pies they will be stuffing themselves with will also come courtesy of Tommy D, being of the coconut-cream variety that the Dahlia Bakery does so well. Why should you go, other than to compete for a meager amount of pizza? Well, because there is no more perfect marriage than a charcuterie and Gruyère baguette from nearby Rain Shadow Meats and an hour spent watching people make asses out of themselves. Schadenfreude, baby. TOBIAS COUGHLIN-BOGUE (Pioneer Square)
Head to any Pagliacci location to get any two slices for $3.14. (Various locations)
This sweet and savory pie spot will have pi-themed pies and a trio of mini pies for $3.14. (Fremont)
To mark 3/14, this Redmond brewery will release their new Key Lime Pi blonde ale (with key limes and vanilla) at 3 pm. Cathouse Pizza will have pizza pies starting at 4:30 pm, and, if you want to embrace the math-tinged nerdiness of the day, you can stay for trivia at 7:30. (Redmond)
Sunday our team was able to go to the North Helpline Banquet at St. Matthew's Parish for the Empty Bowls event. The mission is to raise awareness and funds through a silent auction in which guests come and donate , also enjoy some food in handcrafted bowls made by local artisans and students. Once the meal is finished, each person was able to take home a bowl to remember all the empty bowls in the world and in their communities. All profits raised from the event support the efforts of North Helplines Emergency Services and Food Bank to keep putting food on our neighbors’ tables and a roof over their heads. Thank you team for showing support!
